btw, if you’re of the opinion that phrases like “checking if X is sane” / “sanity check” are awkward/inappropriate language to use in code/docs:

the phrase “sensical” or “consistent” often fill the gap nicely (e.g. “ensure the value X is sensical” / “consistency check”)

@ktemkin I tend to write "reasonable" or "possible" (for example, if the value in a length field for a buffer is larger than the size of that buffer, clearly the length value is not possible or reasonable.)

@foone I am trying to attach a photo of the one I have, but mstdn.social is not cooperating right now. It's a "Radio Shack Electronics Learning Lab 28-280". I would have hoped that Elenco or someone might have picked it up but it doesn't look like they did.

    a chess board that is entirely just one row. It has 16 squares and is about two feet long. It has black chess pieces on the left side and white chess pieces on the right. A hand grabs a white bishop and moves it towards the left in a zig-zagging motion that corresponds with all the white squares on the board. The bishop moves all the way across the board until it knocks the black king over.
