I think a cool thing we could do on Mastodon is have profiles list various activitypub compliant accounts, the follow button could then show that list of accounts and you can pick which ones to follow (ie their photos, dev blog, personal account etc).
This could probably be implemented entirely by clients without any protocol changes needed.
Last toot aged well, so the SNP have installed an openly homophobic (and seems likely Forced birther) Deputy FM. The press that have been singing Forbes are going to use her to destroy the SNP's progressive credentials and they will not have a defence against it.
The heuristic one is tricky, I didnt work on that but usually only changes when there are strong signals its a change for the good and every single change is going to not work ideally for someone.
@dale Thanks! Tab search does seem to be better now, actually! But IMO it should default to show tab search at the top of the suggestions, is there a way to do that?
I understand that you all of course only try to make changes for the better! But I don't understand how it's better to show something at the top of the suggestions other than open tabs or most commonly used URL. Why would I need proton.me suggested when I choose proton.me/inbox every single time?
I feel bad for Humza Yousaf, got the job at a difficult time and I havent seen a politician be on the receiving end of more hateful abuse than he has.
But I am glad that there was a line drawn when it comes to people talking about being progressive vs their actual actions.
I would like the SNP to take this chance to address the fact that being a progressive party and having reactionaty hate campaigners represent that party is not sustainable, but not expecting much on that front
One of the reasons I get fustrated about people gatekeeping the fediverse and banning the general public etc, its very hard to see something like Kenmure Street happening on here as things are.
I knew / followed the first people who saw the Kenmure street van, I met them via twitter. I don't think a single person in that group have moved over here.
social media is like both email and browsing. we want server assistance with spam (unwanted tagging here) but otherwise no interference with our browsing (who we can connect to).
people here need to publicly embrace a new norm. no protecting users from stumbling on upsetting content but also no tolerance for intentional harassment. federate with servers with misinformation and unpopular opinions, but not servers that won't police their users that tag people with shit or poison hashtags.
Noticed in a lot of the "defederate" conversations a repeated strawman arguments that not advocating for a block was somehow support for Zuckerberg et al.
I 100% agree that bluesky / threads etc are not to be trusted and will try to exploit users and the wider fediverse.
I think defederating is an unweildy hammer and that "Embrace, extend, and extinguish" can (and should) go in the other direction for a change.
