Both sets of grandparents came to #Canada from #TheNetherlands shortly after WW2. My parents were both born here in #Ontario, and I live in #HamOnt (where a lot of the #Steenhof & #Turkstra clan still resides).

While most of my extended family are Evangelical/Fundamentalist, I am not part of that spiritual & intellectual dead end.

I write programs with code. That code is often #PHP and #JavaScript/, often leveraging #Laravel and #Vue.

Really liking the 10 attributes. I'm not sure it makes a substantive difference for me in most of my testing, but the vibes are right.

One thing I'd love to see in PHP is auto get/set. Eg something like:

public Uuid $id { get; private set; }

For situations where I want public read/private write.

@heiglandreas Too much boilerplate for my liking.

What I'm interested in is having objects that can manage their own internal state while also allowing trivial public reads without magic methods or docblocks for intellisense.

Started getting SMART errors on my 10 year old server SSD last night (love those middle of the night emails).

By the time I woke up this morning the disk had at least partly failed.

So this morning I'm going to try and clone the drive and see if I can get it booting. Hopefully I can recover some stuff. Otherwise it's reinstall time.

Ironically this week I was planning to get full-disk backups going on that very drive.

I don't miss Twitter but I do miss the community I used to interact with there. I don't really see any evidence that those folks are likely to give up on it soon, but I do wish they would. I expect the hard-liners wouldn't end up on Mastodon anyway.

Welp, will just have to do my best to build and contribute what I'm missing to this community.

If we want competition in the streaming market, the folks who run streamers cannot also be the people who own the IP, and they can't be the same people who develop the IP.

Continuing progress on my blog migration into Eleventy. Finally have my full content on my beta site. It’s not all cleaned up yet but at least it builds… at least it builds in Linux. I get a “too many open files” error in Windows.

About 1550 posts written over the past 19 years. It feels both like something to be proud of and something that’s quite unnecessary.

It's halfway through November and we haven't had a hard frost yet. Daytime highs are in the high teens. All my pepper plants are still alive, kale is still producing, various tender herbs are scraping by. Exceptionally mild.
