"In archaeology, the Maillard process occurs when bodies are preserved in peat bogs. The acidic peat environment causes a tanning or browning of skin tones and can turn hair to a red or ginger tone.

The chemical mechanism is the same as in the browning of food, but it develops slowly over time"

I had a test at the hospital, a few weeks ago, for a condition that runs in the family.
Doc just called. Biopsy: normal!

Merry Christmas to me! \o/

I message my friend: see you soon.

Return to app: bus arriving in 17 minutes. 😖

NOT the first time this happens on a Sunday with bus 113 at Main stn.

Found out today from @gemelliz that TO residents have to vote at their own polling location on election day ... which may not be convenient ...

BUT
you can vote at ANY advance polling place in the city from June 8-13! \o/

This thread gives you
▪ dates/times for advance voting,
▪ a link to find your poll location options,
▪ links to find out about the candidates.

(Only 28% voted last time, which means every vote can have a big impact!)

Now this was interesting reading!

Also, adds new shading to words like "Thanksgiving," Puritan & "rhetoric", for me. :-\

"Although it is often claimed that the Puritans colonized New England seeking, & establishing, religious freedom, this freedom actually applied only to themselves; they had little tolerance for the religious beliefs of others. … This concept, in modified form, continues to inform the policies of the United States of America."

I hate how articles like this do not address the tradeoff of the commute.

In the city, I live car-free, and don't waste time sitting in public transit for hours.

Doesn't sound like a good trade-off: suburban is more affordable because I'd need a car, gas, insurance, parking & 2 hours of daily commute (or 3+ hours of commute by public transit).

🤔 I spotted Sophie Lorain in a recent Quebec production. I immediately remembered where I first loved her acting ... no, wait, all I recall is her emodiment (brilliant, bumbling, serious, relentless).

Took me ages to hunt it down: the series Fortier (2004). 30 yrs, but the image remains: wire glasses, mop of hair, black skirt, slim legs, clunky shoes. Fumbling her bag as she enters.

Sadly, since covid, such a memory no longer connects to the facts needed to provide context, as it used to 🙁

Was down at The Beaches tonight for a film at the mostly-empty Fox cinema. (I do recommend American Fiction … but I digress.)

Down at The Beaches, the air tonight was just heavenly. Is something blooming? Or is that just the scent of spring, down at the lake?

Mmm. I want more.

These past 3 years, I've made some difficult choices. The hardest ones are always important choices between things that are both good -- or both bad.

But: when I clearly lay out what I value, the decision-making is easier.

I learned as a coach: when choices align with what matters to me I sleep well, I don't second-guess myself. (I used to be a worrier! It's astonishing, now that I think about it)

I invite you to name what makes your life great.
