If you know an autistic person, you’re probably aware that April is “Autism Awareness Month.” What you might not know, however, is that April is a month of pure hell for folx.

The concept originated in 1970, when we understood a lot less about autism than we do today. Since then, the month has been co-opted by groups like Autism Speaks for fundraising. But what neurotypical people don’t realize is that the vast majority of these groups are actually

considered to be hate-groups by the community. So much of the discourse and dialogue around autism has centered NT people. When you consider NTs to be the ‘norm’ and NDs to be outside of that norm, the discussion veers toward “how do we help them be normal?”

It's a thread! đŸ§”

"This is not subjective. We all saw it. Plenty of leaders today try to convince the masses we did not see what we saw, but our eyes don’t deceive. (If leaders began a yearslong campaign today to convince us that the Baltimore bridge did not collapse Tuesday morning, would you ever believe them?) Trust your eyes. Trump on Jan. 6 launched the most serious threat to our system of government since the Civil War. You know that. You saw it." https://www.cleveland.com/news/2024/03/our-trump-reporting-upsets-some-readers-but-there-arent-two-sides-to-facts-letter-from-the-editor.html

The second link is to an interactive article so we can judge the difference between a real account and that of a bot/troll.

Tip, if you ever need it: take a lot of photos of your house for insurance/disaster reasons. More than you think you need. Of all the random details of stuff -- where shelves are, what your drawers look like, what pictures you have on the walls. Having just gone through a remodel due to a plumbing disaster, there are a lot of places I had wished I had photos of (ie the laundry room cabinets, the inside of the kitchen cabinets!)

Gentle request.

Please don't drop fake stuff for the lols for April fools.

We all have enough mental bandwidth consumed filtering out active disinformation and innocent mistakes to add to the burden. In general they aren't funny and degrade many folks online experience.

Thanks for listening.

And the long term outlook is poor: Russian artillery are being fired at a rate of six shells to every Ukrainian shell.

We, too, are preparing for the possibility of a quickly worsening situation here.

Can Real-Time Journalism Make A Fediverse Comeback?

"The Newsmast social feed. You can access your regular Mastodon feed while still getting access to a variety of news outlets you might not have seen otherwise.

The result is a well-curated social media feed, operated from its own network of apps and web interfaces, built on top of an open ecosystem, that makes it easier to follow relevant news topics in a way that has since been lost on other platforms. Suddenly, you don’t feel like you’re losing much, even though the trending topics of Twitter are long gone. A good journalist or researcher knows how to build a feed like this. But the layperson might have trouble—and this curated approach helps improve the on-ramp."
