The problem with Bluesky is that:

  • notifications don't work very well
  • the portable identity is not easy to implement for Joe Q. Public
  • there's no way to see the firehose of posts
  • the algorithm doesn't show me anything to my liking
  • moderation is highly suspect
  • there's only one node

That's a lot of things they have to fix!

@atomicpoet so, you like the firehose? I find it overwhelming and stressful. (ADHD here).

I am relieved to use @megalodon's list features to reduce stress with my own curated lists. :-)

Fast Company reviews 6 Twitter replacements, and author @harrymccracken calls Mastodon the "heir apparent".

He says the Mastodon crowd is "friendly and engaged".

And he observes that Mastodon has higher interaction even with lower follower counts.

I was appalled to see 48 candidates running for mayor of Toronto. How am I to research this? And how can we get an informed electorate out to vote? (Last time only 28% of eligible residents voted)

I found ProgressToronto.ca :
Their public survey will collect what voters most care about, then rank the candidates' platforms against that list, giving us data for making good choices.

    @Eamon1916 I'm loving their choices in styling her here.

    We all know how great she can look; but here her boring, messy hair and clothes (even when meeting the PM), grass stains and bare feet, all scream "I don't care!". Frankly, it's a relief. Working women have serious things to do; glamour isn't at the top of the list for most. 👍

    "You see this?" (points at a stain) "I wear black. This doesn't show on black," she glowers, at the aide who packed her an awful grey suit. 😁

    So, yesterday the CBC suspended its use of Twitter, having been branded "state-run media" (implying that the Canadian Government dictates CBC content, which it does not). NPR was likewise branded.

    Then today they remove that label entirely, making propaganda and misinformation sources indistinguishable from genuine news sources and pay-for-verification fake news.
