@khalidabuhakmeh leave it to Jetbrains to make it even harder for me to reject the AI trend. Great that they’re providing choice for which models to use, so we can at least choose who we sell our souls to.

What tool do you use to create a very rough, Gantt-style project timelines? The perfect tool let’s you quickly drag out rough time periods, set dependencies for certain periods or key milestones like presentations or dates for client feedback and approval. And when you adjust individual time periods, connected periods adjust / get pushed out accordingly. That’s it.

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@matthiasott GitHub Projects got a pretty flexible Gantt view recently. For me, it is all I need. And it is veeeery close to my issue tracker anyways, which is nice 😊

Ah, the good old Triple Cookie Notice! Haven’t seen that since 1987

eldamir,

@hejsna if you look really closely, I think there might be an article somewhere behind the cookie content and ads. But I might be wrong. Could just be a teaser and then a paywall 👀 😬

Unity have just released Unity 2022 LTS

This is a big release, as after 35 years in development, the DOTS, or Data Oriented Technology Stack is finally ready! That was quick!

@GameFromScratch lol haven’t heard anything about dots in the last few years. Thought it would never happen. Will be interesting to see where Unity lands after this long journey

September 2007: Silverlight 1.0 was released as a short-lived experiment to
bring development to the browser.

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@khalidabuhakmeh So it seems. They are not afraid of showing in addition to in their videos, which is awesome. I far prefer . Also seeing (from your posts initially), that supports XAML preview, providing live preview of the file you're working on which is really awesome. I'd be so sad if that was a VS-only thing.

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@khalidabuhakmeh @fornever That would certainly improve discoverability. is sneaky with the little banner saying "Hey, we have plugins for this type of file". Checks the file extension and recommends plugins for it. I leaned about many of my plugins that way 😁

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@khalidabuhakmeh And what a S**tshow that was... But I can respect the goal. Anything to challenge the JavaScript madness. Since you keep posting about , I've started looking into it. Looks interesting that it can output to webassembly as well. I'm interested to see how well that plays and how competetion with is doing

I was trying to work outside, and a bird landed in front of me and literally said, “bruh, when are you going to refill the bird feeders.”

I immediately went to the store to buy more bird seed. This is all @NicoleAbuhakmeh fault.

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@khalidabuhakmeh @NicoleAbuhakmeh my woes are different. Wife wants windows cleaned. I clean them. Birds fly straight into them and break their necks. Then I have to clean the windows again and the cycle starts over. I think we need dirty windows to save the wildlife 😬

ayush, to random

Another day, another time I forget to explicitly add return in a JavaScript function and wonder why the fuck nothing is being returned 🤦 😂

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@hejsna @ayush if only that meant good languages in the front instead of lowest common denominator everywhere. No, I don’t much care for JS, if you were wondering😅

neil, to random

No, I don't want your email newsletter. I never want an email newsletter.

The last thing I want is "updates direct to my inbox".

If you've got an RSS feed, I might subscribe to that though.

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@monsieuricon @neil exactly. If they offer mail but not RSS, I’ll assume that their goal is to feed me ads and BS and not the content I want though. So maybe I’m better off without it at all

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@Marcus @neil that is awesome! Thanks for the tip!

@cloudthethings @codinghorror my guess is that it is due to the nsfw tag. They probably don’t want that content to fly out too publicly

So, I put some code in a private repository on GitHub. Then Microsoft slurps it up and shoves it into their steaming pile of whatever they call it. Later, someone asks a question and they get a (maybe useful) slug of my code without any credit or respect for my privacy. Is that about right?

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@ndw quick search has people claiming that copilot only trains on public repositories, but I am struggling to find a credible source to back it up 😅

Late to the party here, but the chance that new .zip and .mov domains mostly get used for malware attacks is 100%

Not sure who asked for this, but this is a bad move.

Block it all.

This sort of thing undermines our collective & is fundamentally unhelpful.

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@jsrailton literally my first thought when I saw this list of names. No one at Google is that dumb. There must be malicious intent here ☹️
How can we fight this?

Pro tip: Your demos aren’t actually cross-platform if your project only builds on Windows and targets .net7.0-windows.

I feel like is circling the drain after getting stocklisted. Sure, they had problems delivering on promises and deprecated everything before new stuff was ready; but now with big layoffs, supporters not responding in time, draconian Software Store licensing, scams and IP theft, I’m not sure what is left to love about it anymore ☹️

I’m looking to now more than ever, but I don’t know if it is ready for our business needs 🤔

eldamir,
@eldamir@hachyderm.io avatar

@rokojori totally agree. The product isn’t perfect, but it is still really good, and we do rely on it for our products, but I am very worried about the future of the company 😵

More considerations about how to break out of for an application that is built on the wrong and has grown organically. It needs and it needs to be lifted to a new tech stack.

I’m writing on my about how I see the challenges ahead of me. Comments are much appreciated 😊
