Q. why is it that many GPs are not using Pharmacy First scheme to refer patients with minor ailments to pharmacies?

Is it because GP are obstructive & seeking to hoard work?

Or is it because an IT 'solution' was rushed out & imposed on users with little strategic preparation?

Or are Pharmacists making mischief (as part of the private sectors' demonisation of the NHS)?

You can make up your own mind but experience suggests hurried roll-out is likely the issue

@ChrisMayLA6 my question is what pharmacies can GPs refer to?

So many have closed in Cornwall during 2024 so far.

Meanwhile, one of the biggest out of hour pharmacies in the county had waiting times for dispensing of over two hours in March.

Go on LinkedIn for a bit this morning and I'm greeted with a message and an ad inviting me to screw over my own future and that of others.

No, I'm not going to teach your generative AI model how to f**king write.

An ad from Outlier that appeared in my LinkedIn feed, encouraging me to sign up for the role I was messaged about.

I've bought myself a diary for this year to help me be motivated, accountable and more organised. It's got a column on each week view where you can fill in multiple times a day if you've managed to achieve the goal of completing a daily habit you want to get into.

Today, I've gotten 4/5. The columns stand for "Writing", "Exercising" "Learning Danish", "Reading" & "Learning About Cybersecurity".

The problem being with that last one, I've not found a way yet to learn about what I want to learn.

emkingma,
@emkingma@mstdn.social avatar

What do I want to learn?

Well, I'm not exactly coming from a computer science or product development background here... But I'm super interested in security economics, human factors and psychology basically around product design, purchasing and deployment as it pertains to .

WTF would that come under and how would I learn about it bit by bit, while still having a job?

If you have an idea, do speak up.

WTF was the British accent Robert Downey Jr was meant to have in Dolittle?

Was it Welsh? Irish? Indecipherable?

Really enjoying the new season of Reacher on Amazon Prime.

But to my eye it looks like the lighting style has changed heavily from the first season (and most US shows).

Tire dust makes up the majority of ocean microplastics and hangs as an invisible mist wherever cars are driven. A traditional petrol / diesel car's four tires will pollute 1 trillion toxic nano particles for every kilometer driven. There are about 1.4 billion cars in the world. Letโ€™s assume they drive and average 20,000 km per year. That means that every year some 28 septillion of these toxic particles pollute air, soil and water. Thatโ€™s 28,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

emkingma,
@emkingma@mstdn.social avatar

@stew_sims @simon_brooke @ariaflame @gerrymcgovern you do understand why second hand child seats are discouraged, right?

It's because you can't guarantee that the structure hasn't been damaged during use or by dropping, which means it doesn't protect as well as it could in case of a crash. Same issues as why you shouldn't drop motorcycle helmets--it can cause structural damage that means it doesn't protect as well if the wearer is involved in a crash.

(Also safety standards change over time.)

emkingma,
@emkingma@mstdn.social avatar

@stew_sims @simon_brooke @ariaflame @gerrymcgovern babies and children aren't meant to be in the path of airbags, because they're dangerous to them. They don't benefit from them at all.

The sensible choice would be to make car seats from materials that can be recycled effectively, not downgrade safety regulations while cars get heavier and more dangerous.

I think we are definitely in a situation where the people making a lot of the generative AI tools don't understand that people who already have very well developed creative skills don't want to use them to do their creative work.

They don't seem to understand that the creative process in of itself can be very meaningful and rewarding work when you have writing or artistic skills. Even the bits where you're having to problem solve.

(This based on a conversation I had today.)
