Also @twitter doesn’t even seem to have a definition in its policies for how it’s applying new ‘Government funded’ label. Does it mean ‘government funded but independent’? Meanwhile #RT is government funded. Somehow ‘state affiliated’ sounds less controlled and less certain relationship than ‘government funded’! Is there a ‘government controlled but not funded’ category?! 🤔 This is all unravelling faster than Matt Taibbi’s journalism… #commodon #media #journalism

@npr What I would do… I would have a clear as hell #Twitter label for #media that’s known to be demonstrably ‘government controlled’ like #RT, I would keep ‘state affiliated’ for softer influence like #VOANews #RFERL #bbcworldservice #AJEnglish, and have ‘public broadcaster’ #bbc #npr. (And keep an eye on whether government interference continues #BBC which might shift it toward my ‘state affiliated’ category)
