I expected that COVID was going to suck, but I didn't expect this level of pain. Every muscle aches like I have never felt before. I just want to sleep through this, but I wasn't gifted with the sleep-all-day symptom, but rather the pain-at-every-joint, including ones you didn't know existed, symptom. This sucks.

After four years of being super cautious, I finally left the house without a mask, and I came home with COVID.

L'Shana Haba'ah B'Yerushalayim (לְשָׁנָה הַבָּאָה בִּירוּשָלָיִם) means "Next year in Jerusalem".

It is said every year at the end of the seder. The seder commemorates the Jewish / Israelite Exodus from Egypt and back to Canaan, which encompasses all of modern day Israel / Palestine.

The seder and the quote serves as a reminder of the experience of living in exile.

In exile.

Israel is occupying territory, yes. But it's not colonization.

estelle,
@estelle@front-end.social avatar

The story of the Exodus is myth, possibly with some facts, but the concept of Canaan is about 4000 years old.

The first temple, Solomon's Temple, was built on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem between 900 and 500 BCE .

The second temple, Herod's Temple, was built c. 516 BCE and 70 AD.

Israelites who were taken into exile from the Kingdom of Israel during the 8th century BCE and the 6th century BCE. While in exile, they became known as "Jews"

"The Judean population (in Canaan, modern-day Israel) revolted against the Roman Empire in 66 CE in the First Jewish–Roman War, which culminated in the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE. Romans destroyed the Second Temple and most of Jerusalem. This watershed moment, the elimination of the symbolic centre of Judaism and Jewish identity motivated many Jews to formulate a new self-definition and adjust their existence to the prospect of an indefinite period of displacement." Again, "Trump is worse!" Then blocked🤷🏿‍♂️

https://mastodon.stevesworld.co/@steter/112402055418029413

Gotta respect the doubling down! Replying to me posting some dude saying "Trump is worse!" then blocking me, with saying "Trump is worse!" then blocking me too! The commitment to the bit is impressive!

Listen, you can get as mad as you want. You can call Black folk criticizing Biden "Bitching" if you want. We're still going to do it.

The CDC under Biden dropped the Covid isolation period from "5 days" to "vibes days." Not Trump.

estelle,
@estelle@front-end.social avatar

@mekkaokereke

My understanding is there's a 24 hour wait once you're fever-free and feeling better, then 5 more days of "being careful (wearing a mask), so it's more like 6 to 11 days, depending on symptoms. not "vibes".

CDC did lump it in with respiratory illnesses and dropped testing as few people test

Factcheck addressed it here: https://www.factcheck.org/2024/03/explaining-the-new-cdc-guidance-on-what-to-do-if-you-have-covid-19/

I read up on it today b/c partner tested negative, so in 24 hrs we can leave the house (after 7 days of quarantine), with a mask on.

The MAGA bible is just a money laundering scheme. It enables churches to fund DJT's campaign without "contributing" or "participating" in politics.

It's time to tax churches.

When doing book reviews for O'Reilly, one option is to be paid in books! Here is part of my haul -

My goodness that CSS book is chonky, @estelle and @Meyerweb ! I knew it'd be big, hahahah, but at 1100 pages it truly has biblical proportions!

@deadparrot @addyosmani

The CSS book seen obliquely from the side showing how deep it is (just under 6cm or 2.5 inches).
One of my children reading about CSS (face obscured by huge book).

Double them up, and they're the same size as a step.

I use O'Reilly books as a ladder extender (or stair extender?) when I have to replace the lightbulb in the sconce above my stairs!

Either 2 copies of CSSTDG or 6 copies of Mobile HTML5. :D

Today, we sat in the sun, then went to her 2nd favorite park to sniff things one last time. Tomorrow I'll carry her down the cliffs at Fort Funston so she can roll in whatever gross things she still has the energy for.

When we get home, I'll turn the heat, give her a last bath so she can pass with dignity, and then struggle with her until we say goodbye on Saturday.

Keep us in your thoughts. This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

I'm bawling. She's consoling me. She doesn't know why.

The ::part() pseudo-element enables parent DOM CSS to style parts in a child shadowDOM.

Nested components? You have to use the exportparts attribute and allow any ancestor to target a part with styles from outside the shadowDOM.

A little codePen to demonstrate:

My mom, a transphobe, thinks "Trans people should just stop talking about being trans." She thinks it was a non-issue and now Trans people are in everyone's mentions.

I asked her to tell me who she hears talking about trans issues. Is it trans people, or is ... and listed the groups doing the talking: all people and orgs trying to take away trans rights.

It was easy to point out that trans people just want to live their lives. Trans people are not the problem!

Now to convince 333M others.

Trader Joe's is suing to destroy worker rights for EVERYONE, not just the TJ workforce.

They're arguing that the NLRB is unconstitutional, and plan on taking their anti-worker stance to the anti-worker US supreme court.

I loved TJs.
Past tense, now.
Ugh.

estelle,
@estelle@front-end.social avatar

@joeinwynnewood I would think TJs has a customer base that would organize to support their TJs unionizing.

I wrote the union to add a section on how customers can help to their FAQs on their website. I hope they come back with something more than "donate to the union". I think if customers threatened a boycott we might get far.

Protip: install the Nitter Redirect extension in your browser, so when you accidentally click on a bird link, you get redirected to a Nitter link of the tweet -- where you can actually see it and the replies with no ads and no clicks for Elon.

If you prefer not to see anything bird-related, not even on Nitter, install leechBlock, and either block or redirect any requests to the .com.
