"I cannot be phased by being condescended to by old white men in legislative meetings. I have worked many years in infosec and I am dead inside" is an actual thing I said in an all-hands meeting yesterday.
i need to reorganize my workspace again because there's something infinitely sad about be looking at my unfinished creative projects and unread books, while on the 2nd meeting of the day with the same vendor
There is nothing more American than bragging that you know a bunch of languages because you can stumble your way through a restaurant menu and nothing more European than fluently speaking 3+ languages while apologizing for your accent.
@ShaulaEvans This is a good place to start <https://refugetechsafety.org/digitalbreakup/>, but if your friend has specific questions about her situation, she can contact me directly at eva at eff dot org and I'd be happy to talk to her.
A lot of people who are not experts in domestic abuse think they're making a clever point by informing me that if an abuser has physical access & login credentials, the game's already over.
I am very tired and do not have the energy to explain why making spying easier for abusers is bad, actually.
@coldclimate It takes a great deal of boldness and self confidence to come into my mentions and give privacy and security advice to people who were asking me and not them for their opinion.
the idea that someone flashes their status by wearing an expensive watch is so beyond me, it's like reading about the behavior of another species. I have never, ever noticed an expensive watch. maybe a cool one, with a lil calculator.
When I talk about digital privacy, there is always some smug genius who shrugs and tells me, "Who cares? We all know we don't have any privacy anyway." Nothing could be more wrong. Convincing you that the fight is already over to the way people in power get you to stop resisting.
Everything about Durov's statement is so profoundly dishonest that I feel like engaging in a point-by-point debunking is a waste of time. If most of the messages on your platform are not end-to-end encrypted AT ALL, it is less private and secure than platforms whose messages are all e2e by default.
@fifilamoura I absolutely do not care whether or not he is a Russian agent. I only care that the platform he runs is objectively neither private nor secure by default and he is trying to convince people to use it instead of a platform that is much more private and secure by default.
@lzg How the hell are you doing this? I am apparently supposed to try to get 90-something grams of protein into my diet in a day and I'm pretty sure that I average around 50. I have pondered protein shakes, but I don't think the extra 18-20 g of protein is worth all the sugar that comes with it.
