Dear app developer:

If you ask me for permission on something and give me the choices of "yes" and "ask me again later" it's an immediate uninstall

I mean if you don't understand basic programming concepts like how Booleans work, I don't want your code anywhere near my systems

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@TomLarrow I feel like the people designing those questions don't grasp the concept of consent.

"yes" and "ask me again later" is description of harassment.

We already have 1,000 would-be Mozarts who instead of learning music and honing their skills are doing shit jobs for shit wages. They're spending their time just surviving instead of blessing the rest of us with music we'd love.

What these would-be Mozarts need is basic income.

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@NatureMC @scottsantens There should be international treaties to outlaw such wealth accumulation, with severe embargoes on countries who break the law in order to become "wealth havens".

Also, for the last two decades, regulating bodies have only pretended to regulate anything: many mergers and take-overs should have been impeded.

The EU is starting to take many good measures in that sense, but not everything spreads to the world.

It gave me a list of telescopes that while actually existing and not being absolute crap aren’t what the best telescope for a beginner is.

Get a used 8” Dobsonian from any brand.

Also if you have questions about something, ask people. Not a toaster.

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@thomasfuchs Can you give me some pointers on how to start on "driveway" astrophotography?

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@thomasfuchs

My experience has been putting a cellphone up to a telescope's lens. I've tried with Nikon cameras, without an adapter, and it was even harder.

I tried taking long exposition photos of the sky in clear and in light polluted areas with a Nikon, but it wasn't much of a success.

I can spend perhaps 2k Euros now and invest more in the future, specially if I apply for a grant of some sort.

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@thomasfuchs I live near the Equator and travel South sometimes. Cities in Brazil are exremely light polluted due to the proliferation of white LED pannels everywhere (stores aim 12+ of them torwards the street at night, all night, for no apparent reason other than "its so cheap!").

I wish I could take DeepSky images during the day, for example.

I do travel to more rural areas on long weekends, where I can stargaze.

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@thomasfuchs Ah, yeah, few questions:

How to better use the DSLR? Because I've been literally taking shots of the ocular lens of the telescope.

Also, considering I have some telescopes at my disposal, from 100mm to 200mm, schimidt-cassergrain and maksutov and a goto mount, I wanted to get an entry ZWO, and later upgrade to a better camera.

The thing is: there are tens of models of ZWO! Which are the best cost/beneffit at entry price?

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@thomasfuchs Also, which filters do I have to buy? Can I take pictures during the day with such equipment?

I have a lot more to say, but I'll hold it for now and simply wonder aloud...

Which BigTech clouds are the "Lavender" & "Where's Daddy?" AI systems running on? What APIs are they using? Which libraries are they calling?

What work did my former colleagues, did I, did you contribute to that may now be enabling this automated slaughter?

(Also, content warning. This is some of the sickest shit I've ever read.)

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@Mer__edith I believe just like Physics eventually created the atomic bomb, Chemistry created horrible gasses, and Biology has a potential of creating and spreading deadly diseases, Computer Science has reached the point where it can be weaponized to either WMD or extremely violent automated weapons, with no empathy, potentially unstoppable.

We need a international law banning all uses of AI against humans, be it internal police forces, or in wars.

So not only stops humanitarian aid from being distributed to Palestinians in , not only murders children and civilians, annihilates hospitals and infrastructure, but also kills the cooks who go there trying to feed starving kids? And whoever criticizes this Nazi-like war criminality is silenced as an anti-Semite?

The Goebbels inspired propaganda machine has worked wonders, it seems. At the expense of the Holocaust and Jews worldwide.

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@65dBnoise I agree with all of your words, but CW is necessary. You wouldn't print those and put in front of people. Also, you don't know what people are doing with their social media open, in which context they are.

Do speak. Don't silence yourself. What they are doing is genocide. Palestinians are not worth less than Ukranians.

Just: use CW.

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@65dBnoise There are hardly any graphical images like that on newspapers. Perhaps the debris of a hospital, or something like that.

If only what brings Bolsonaros and Mileis to power was so simple. There are many other aspects, and even the suggestion algorithm of proprietary social media plays a significant role.

The mulishness of some middle aged men seem to be constant as the times change.

Perhaps a wiser man would know when to listen to the youth.

💭 Space.com having 5 social media buttons showing up twice, and the only Fediverse one is Flipboard (which is barely connected to the federation, I think) makes me not want to cite them and look for another source.

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

https://flipboard.com/@Spacecom

The Follow button does not have the "Take me to my instance" dialogue, instead tells me to create an account there.

Searching @spacecom and @spacecom does not yield anything.

@Flipboard should really federate better.

fe06,
@fe06@astrodon.social avatar

@Flipboard Thanks for the reply.

I hope that eventually all of your internal accounts get federated.

I followed the Space Science magazine.

Best of luck!

    fe06,
    @fe06@astrodon.social avatar

    @AkaSci ah. I can't reasonably read that graph, as I'd have to convert many numbers to have a feel of what it means.

    I guess, from

    1. the colors
    2. that ~32ºF (33 and 31) is what everyone knows as 0ºC,
    3. the changes in the arctic winds
      That there is cold coming from the North pole...

    But isn't it supposed to be cold this month in the region?

    So I don't get what is happening there.
