I have an opening for an OT security person in the Cologne/Düsseldorf region of Germany.

You must be a FOSS aficionado who is willing to work on pushing a windows-based environment towards something from this millenium. Challenges are internal friction on the dev side and lack of knowledge of non-IT people.

You must be enthusiastic about industrial environments and heavy machinery.

Colleague of mine would like to use Linux more, and one of the remaining obstacles were his two printers not working. Spent a couple of hours debugging (proprietary) drivers and always ended up with "communication error".

So finally grab a tcpdump, and lo and behold: the thing was giving ICMP denied for SNMP. Whisky Tango Foxtrott. Turns out the driver needs it to query the supplies levels and status and otherwise won't print. At all.

Enable in web interface, paper comes out.

Go figure.

Websearched a distant relative on a whim today, and happened onto instantcheckmate.com.

Holy smokes. Yinzes USians really don't give a crap about privacy, eh?

Within 5 minutes I had found not only his address and phone number but also his sister's and mom's, correctly identified his deceased father, and found their relocation history over the past 30 years. Without even so much as having to create an account. 😳🤔😳

This just glorious from @keenan. The way they read the post is just 👌

fedops,
@fedops@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev @keenan I'm completely the opposite. I love getting my feed without having to mentally accomodate each site's different layout and idiosyncracies. The feed reader (feeder and newsboat) just gets me the content and none of the BS around it.

Maybe I'm more used to that since also my normal web browsing setup is very likely to completely destroy the layout of your site by filtering out all unwanted scripts and blinky doodads.

Is anyone using Bitwarden in a large organization?

We currently use Keepass with about 5000 entries in 800 folders and subfolders. These represent geographically distributed customer sites.

Importing this into BW works, but the search functionality is super clunky and the dumbed-down interface is a pain to use. For example in the app a found entry is not listed with the collection it was found in. It is in the web UI, but the collection name is shortened unrecognizably.

fedops,
@fedops@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel doesn't solve our issues. We need to be able to give groups of people access to subtrees of the whole thing. With Keepass it's all or nothing, and whoever knows the master password for a vault has it.

Testing time 24.04 :-)

fedops,
@fedops@fosstodon.org avatar

@thewk what's different with the rdp server compared to say 22.04?

fedops,
@fedops@fosstodon.org avatar

@thewk interesting, thanks.

I'm not really a fan of rdp since it's essentially a security nightmare, and extending this to non-windows machines is a wrong move IMHO. But I accept that it has become a defacto standard.

This morning I received a call to have a job interview this evening, dev position, in a big enterprise ("big" according to my humble standards; ~200 people in the IT department I've been told, a noticeable change from being just 2 developers in my former job). Stakes are high and probabilities are low, but having another chance when everything seems to be going south is nice. :)

Calling all ThinkPad users.

A while back, I sprayed sparkling mineral water all over my ThinkPad keyboard. Despite drying it immediately, the keyboard always malfunctioned after that incident.

I purchased a replacement keyboard from TellusRem, as they are considerably cheaper than the Lenovo originals.

I can report that the TellusRem keyboard is every bit as good as the original.
