Some People Are Strangely Resistant to Alzheimer's. Here's What Makes Them Different

'A team of researchers... looked at brain tissue samples stored at the Netherlands Brain Bank.... Among those thousands of samples, the team found just 12 who had been cognitively healthy prior to their death yet had clear neurological signs of the disease's underlying pathology.'

The end of this tea was better than the beginning. The more compressed center had more camphor and floral notes, less licking a wet stone (though that is still present). It's not a great tea, but I absolutely enjoyed it

@fitheach I mostly buy direct from China. This one was from Yee On, a famous tea shop in Hong Kong, that sells aged pu'erh teas. I do pick things up in local shops when I see something interesting.

My favourite sources for Oolong are Ten Shang for Taiwanese oolongs: http://tenshangtea.com/index.asp

And Wuyi Origin for Wuyi and Guangdong oolongs: https://www.wuyiorigin.com/

Remind any of your friends considering voting Labour in Scotland ...

"LABOUR MPS HAVE ACCEPTED OVER £280,000 FROM ISRAEL LOBBY

Twenty percent of Labour’s sitting MPs have been funded by pro-Israel groups or individuals – including 15 who have been directly funded by the Israeli state."

What is the Israeli State getting in return? Isn't it an MPs job to represent their constituents?

Someone in the village must have got a fat fine or even a ban for - the local speedwatch sign has been destroyed - even though the electronic "SLOW DOWN" sign cannot result in a charge even if it contains a camera (some do!) -All that happens is after repeated hits the registration mark is put on a list, driver gets a warning and the list sent to Constabulary (so they would have to be repeat offenders to actually get a ticket)

Solar powered electronic sign that shows 30 SLOW DOWN if you drive past it at >30 mph (it might have a camera inside it, about half of these signs (which appear on various rural and suburban streets from time to time) do contain camera.

vfrmedia,
@vfrmedia@social.tchncs.de avatar

@fitheach where the sign is is just before a 4 way junction and a main route to the highway, its been put there for a good reason (as folk think they can get away with sending it through the village and it has ended badly before, in fact there have been worse incidents than in the large town)

The Scottish Novel in 1824
1 July, University of Edinburgh – free

This one-day in-person symposium marks the bicentenary of 1824, an ‘annus mirabilis’ in the history of Scottish fiction that saw the publication of two experimental masterpieces: James Hogg’s The Private Memoirs & Confessions of a Justified Sinner, & Walter Scott’s Redgauntlet.

I came across this image of a building and first thought that the roof was made from wood. But no, the Moiré pattern resulting from the thin lines between the roof shingles mapped onto the discrete grid of an image sensor at an angle is just effectively the same hyperbolic math that leads to the cathedral grain patterns in flat-sawn wood.

cathedral grain of flat-sawn wood. The growth rings intersected at an angle produce the same repeating arc pattern.

At long last, I've done it.

I've registered my .scot domain.
http://fitheach.scot

I've been meaning to do this for years. Thankfully, no-one else thought to register the domain, in the meantime.

In the next few days I'll move the website to the new domain. At the moment the .scot redirects to .co.uk

I'll keep both domains, with the .scot as the primary domain for all my activities.

edavies,
@edavies@functional.cafe avatar

@fitheach You don't necessarily need your own domain to have an effectively unlimited number of email addresses. E.g., some providers allow '+' in the local part followed by a made up tag:

https://edavies.me.uk/2016/08/unique-email/
