That sounds an awful lot like the argument in the days when Opera was using its own render engine: "The Opera marketshare is skewed because Opera isn't logged as Opera because of UA manipulation to make websites work at all".

Not to say it's wrong but it looks more like the last breaths of a dying product than anything else.

Sometimes I would just love to write "RTFM". I don't, it's rude, but damn, some people could really use getting an "RTFM" slapped around their ears (or rather, eyes) here and there.

I totally get it when people can't find the right spot for the info they are looking for, and that's on me. But I just had a case where the person even posted a link to a very short doc page that contained the right info under a descriptive sub heading. And I think that's not on me.

I'm a professional admin and I have to remind me of that fact on a regular basis.

But TBH man pages from rsync, curl or dnsmasq are intimidating. Yeah, I can read in the man page how to get rsync run remotely as root without ssh'ing as root but it's not really easy to find. Or interpret.

Heute ertrinkt zum wiederholten Male in diesem Jahr Italien. Morgen vlt Griechenland, Bottrop oder Spanien. Unwetterkatastrophen regen niemanden mehr auf - es waren 2023 einfach zu viele. Das Erschrecken weicht der medialen Gewöhnung. Nur an das Gegensteuern, daran wollen wir uns nicht gewöhnen.

Wenn wir jetzt, also so wirklich jetzt, gegensteuerten, ach!, alles machten, was wir könnten und vielleicht noch ein bisschen mehr, ja dann, dann … würden wir Jahrhunderte lang nichts davon bemerken.

Und insgeheim wissen es wohl alle. Keine Anstrengung könnte uns das Gefühl eines noch so kleinen Erfolges zu unseren Lebzeiten sichern. Wir strengten uns an, ohne den Lohn unserer Mühen einfahren zu können.

Das scheint bei Audible aber irgendwie Programm zu sein. Wir hören gerade Das Rad der Zeit, und mit >20h pro Buch sind diese Kapitelmarken nahezu nutzlos. Unterstützt das Audiobook-Format keine ordentlichen Kapitelnamen?

Das wae auch so eine kulturelle Überraschung gewesen, als ich das Anfang der 90er mitbekommen hatte, dass Wizardry, was in Europa gefühlt unter "ferner liefen" bekannt war, in Japan so durchschlagenden Erfolg hatte, dass es sogar für den Gameboy eine Portierung gab. Hierzulande waren ja eher Bard's Tale und die Goldbox-Spiele Gesprächsthema, so zumindest mein Eindruck. Ich habe zwar gerne Ultima gespielt, kann aber seine kulturelle Wirkung nicht einschätzen.

Das habe ich ja überhaupt nicht mitbekommen! Ich habe nur die Teile 6, 7 und 8 gespielt – als ich von Wizardry das erste Mal hörte, waren mir die frühen Teile schon zu altbacken, auch wenn ihr Ruf verlockend klang. Danke für den Tipp!

Wenn ich in meiner Gemeinde den Bau einer Windkraftanlage anregen wollte, wie ginge ich denn am sinnvollsten vor? Meine Überlegung geht in Richtung Genossenschaft, während die Gemeinde um Ausweisung geeigneter Flächen gebeten wird. Gibt es da Initiativen, die beratend zur Seite stehen?

    Ach, so kriechen eben langsam englische Begrifflichkeiten in unsere Sprache. Ich kriege ja jedes Mal Gefühle, wenn ich in deutschen Texte "in 2023“ oder so lesen darf. Da ist auch aus dem englischen Wirtschaftssprech diese Formulierung rübergeschwappt. Lohnt sich nicht mehr, sich dagegen zu wehren, fürchte ich.

    Kann ich für Website-Besucher den Text in einer großen Menge an Bildern suchbar machen?

    Keine Zeit für Transkriptionen, Alt-Texte, manuelle Bearbeitungen etc. Dauernd kommen neue Bilder dazu und alles soll ohne weitere Arbeit suchbar sein.

    Alternativ geht auch Upload der Bilder bei einem Online-Dienst, aber niemand soll sich irgendwo anmelden oder etwas Kompliziertes machen müssen. Text suchen, Bilder mit gesuchtem Text angezeigt bekommen, fertig.

    Im Jahr 2023 muss das doch möglich sein.

    Sounds interesting. I guess the two services are needed to 1. start the toolbox container which does not automatically start Syncthing inside itself (no systemd in podman containers?) and that's why 2. the second service unit commands the toolbox container to launch the syncthing daemon?

    I have mostly experience with systemd-nspawn containers where systemd cares about launching the services inside it. But on Silverblue I'd certainly use toolbox, too.

    somehow this sentence really ticks me off. you could’ve just said “I now agree with them” y’know? you don’t have to call it a fact just to make yourself feel better about your changed opinion. (also, nice job with that “now”, leaving the possibility that, back when your opinion differed, yours was still correct and they were wrong)
