People like to say that "AI" is different from crypto in that there are actual useful applications, and that's true. But the vast majority of people you're expecting to come up with those applications are the same people who were just trying to build products on the blockchain.

@misc Totally agree. As if the web wasn't completely kaputt before, now we're being swamped with generated zero-effort, zero-use nonsense all the time.

I'm really thinking hard about the consequences and one of them is that I think the web as we know it really will dwindle in the coming years.

Many knowledgeable people have suggested that blogging will come back, and I kind of hope so, but I think we really don't know what human nature will prefer in terms of actual authenticity.

Many people complain that the plethora of EU data ___ acts and especially the AI act will seriously limit innovation and competitiveness in the EU domestic market.

I agree with that sentiment, but I also agree that it is necessary: Seeing the consequences of unregulated media, data and AI regulation, the EU is gradually becoming the only place worth living except for maybe secluded Amazon wilderness, Amish settlements and the Greenland perimeter.

And yes, I'm dead serious about this.

With Apple's VR glasses bringing in new people into the space I am a bit sad about how little of what XR can do they'll experience. As someone wrote: Apple does 2.5d.

Not saying that the rest of the XR space has been that innovative in the last years. There was a lot of dicking around with tech and very little conceptual work dealing with the WHY of XR outside of obvious cases (VR for historical recreation, visualization of building plans, etc. You know the drill).

I especially think that Apple's move away from haptics is bad.

They have the best gesture recognition available but if the black mirrors we swipe around on all day have shown us one thing it's that it's not fulfilling enough and that touch, physically grasping something is important to us.

@tante One aspect to add to this is the criminal ignorance of all things related to motion sickness[*] and the fact that it is a divisive effect as it affects women disproportionately.

[*] Except for "latency!!!11", which does only solve the problem for a fraction of users and is not technically feasible for a variety of reasons.

Die Datei-Speichern-Dialoge werden auch einfach immer umständlicher.

Gebt mir ein Dateiauswahlfeld, keine Geklicke durch Cloud-Zwang - Home Folder - Documents - Quatsch, sondern den Ordner, in dem das File vorher lag, verdammt!
