Today she's guarding the nest entrance with a few majors much bigger than her. It was very funny since they kept pushing her out of the way. They all like to sit in the tube entrance and just ... wait.

(I thought she made a great guard, but they made her leave)

Aw jeez Tulip has started this futile “digging project” in the corner and roped a bunch of minors in to help. Sometimes it’s like she knows there is a “world beyond” and can’t help looking for a way back— like a child who once saw Narnia who, as an adult, keeps climbing into cabinets … just in case.

the anti-fluoride people are back... I mean, if you like anti-vax stuff why not? It's the same swindle.

"precious bodily fluids" and all that.

I hate the taste of mint so I'm always looking for toothpaste that tastes better... I was horrified to discover that if you go of the beaten path with toothpaste there are 100s of brands with "no fluoride" which only a tiny number of people really need... Be careful if you use a "crunchy" brand ... fluoride is amazing.

By the way if you hate mint (or any menthol like taste) toothpaste I found a few brands that HAVE fluoride but don't have a minty taste they are:

BURSTkids "bubblegum" "mareshmallow" and strawberry.

Hismile "strawberry" and "grape"

Tom's Children's Strawberry WITH FLUORIDE (they make one without be careful)

I'm cavity prone, have a sweet-tooth and the pallet of a nine year old.

If you know of others let me know. The BURSkids is the best, it's made brushing enjoyable.

The BURSTkids mareshmallow is nice and mild and I love it enough to put up with it twice a day because my dentist said I need to brush basically all the damn time.

Cinnamon is too exciting for me when brushing teeth.

Yes I drink hot sauce and love strong flavors... but I need ultra bland toothpaste or it's a torture session.

Are the legal battles in our courts a kind of ritual conflict resolution?

Like the giant forest ants when they stand on four stiff legs to look as big as possible and hit each other with their front legs and antennae? They don't bite, but the mandibles are wide to show how well they could bite...

Instead we hit each other with paper, like subpoenas...

It's the weekend and I get to catch up with my colonies and see what they've been up to all week. It's spring so they are very busy and VERY hungry. I need to order more feeders... why can't we have cicadas in NYC? That would be so helpful... I have thousands of hungry mandibles to feed a little gasters to fill and they are not patient.

I don't know why everyone doesn't have an ant colony. There's always something new going on in there.

Homo naledi is the most interesting new human like primate. They are from South Africa, little people. walked upright, but primates walking upright goes way back.

They had hands just like modern humans but longish arms and powerful shoulders ... so they could probably zip up a tree.

They have small brains half modern size. This has made people astonished that they may have had fire.

I'm glad I'll never meet one, a smart little firebug with powerful arms sounds terrifying. 1/

I need to buy pea plant seeds to raise aphids, and the seeds cannot have any pesticides on them. NONE. Does anyone know a trustworthy supplier?

Concept: An app that trolls your social media feed for links to videos and complies them into a playlist. (with the ability to set restrictions to exclude videos that are over/under various lengths.)

Concept2: A 'widget' box on mastodon's web app where part-time developers could put features such as the above. And a panel with an easy way to add widgets for nonprogrammer end users.

A widget that finds a recent photo of a cat posted by someone you know.

A news widget that pulls headlines from various news services.

A widget that has a bunch of unicode special characters to click on for math posts.

Its always remarkable to me to think about Descartes and Galileo being contemporaries: so we know how the former reacted when the latter was imprisoned:
