Hmm arbitrary pin software GPIO PWM seems to have died on the vine again...

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@deshipu to be fair, they have a point πŸ˜†

Scheduling all your kernel time to babysit software PWM and locking yourself out of your system is... not fun.

Aphantasia just means you don’t have to unlearn your mental cad software to learn Fusion 360 😭

Being able to fully realise, explore and manipulate a concept mentally is kinda useful for being a layabout daydreamer. But getting that out of my head and into reality is kinda 99% of the actual journey to a usable thing 😬

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@deshipu I could be the same- it’s quite possible I’m confusing the ability to explore a mental model of a design with actual understanding. I’ve always erred more on the artistic than technical side of CAD too.

I just got absolutely wrecked by FreeCAD 😭

@joel love this game! Simple, stress free romp in the country with that very β€œIgnition” (1996 3D DOS cartoon car racer) art style. Like Lunistice for similar reasons even though it’s a very different game.

While many restaurants provide varying vegan food options, trying to grab a quick snack from either a cafe or even a supermarket sandwich chiller is a massive challenge.

I took my family to the coast today and across the dizzying array of small cafes, supermarkets and cafe franchises, there was a frustrating lack of options.

Forget about buying anything fancy when even the basics are lacking.

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@andycarolan mind was slightly blown this weekend by the excellent 100% vegan coffee/cafe caterer we had at . Just unapologetically vegan 🀣 while I do eat meat, I’m allergic to dairy so having coffee, cakes and food I could eat without even having to worry about getting the wrong milk was so dang refreshing!

But yeah I feel your pain- finding anything dairy free is very near the same problem and is a constant pain.

a jet engine is audible in our living room

Me: β€œUh, @katie, what’s going on??”

Katie: β€œMy MacBook is trying to open Photoshop…”

five minutes of jet engine fan noise passes

Katie: β€œYay!”

UK friends - do you have an air conditioner?
If so, which one?
There are so many different options and I don't know how to choose!

Boosts, as ever, appreciated.

(UK replies only, thanks. Not interested in fans & ice-cubes. Will be run off solar power, so I'm comfortable with the energy usage. Yes, I hate having to ward off reply-guys with these long disclaimers.)

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@Edent EcoFlow Wave 2. It’s awkwardly shaped and cumbersome to fit in a house but has dual hoses, a plug for solar panels and turns our bedroom into a fridge 🀣

Unfortunately I have wrecked the ~£800 battery add-on for it by not cycling it over winter 😭

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@Edent after extensive research into the cost and complexity of fitting various units I reckon a dual hose, self-contained wall mount unit is the best bet for anyone taking AC seriously but not multiroom-hooked-to-an-outdoor-exchanger mini-split seriously. This @kicad -> @blender plugin by @bobbe is absolutely amazing!

It allows you to import your KiCad design into Blender with textures, shaders, and even solder blobs in like 5 clicks!

Now if only I had the slightest idea how to use Blender 😭

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@gsuberland @arturo182 @kicad @blender @bobbe if I had the first clue how to use KiCad I’d have a great excuse to pick up Blender again 🀣

Super nice results though, I wonder if they’re that good right out of the box or need minor tweaks πŸ€” I never could get the hang of setting up ray traced materials.

gadgetoid,

@marcel Cosm here, love it. They could vanish the gaming chair market overnight if they hit the right price point 🀣

Aeron is super popular too. More people should know you can find them cheaper on business clearout websites and they’re basically invincible.

Woah! Someone posted the 1 billionth Scratch project online:
https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1000000000

The Scratch online community has come a long way since it started as a master's thesis project!

Here is one of the first mock-ups of the website I did around 2005, inspired Flickr and some other "web 2.0" websites of that era

As you may remember from me talking about it once a week, the three things I most want out of a cell phone are

  1. RECTANGULAR screen with NO HOLES OR ROUNDED EDGES ON THE DISPLAY CANVAS

  2. Big bezel/bevel/whatever it's called so I can hold it without activating the touch screen

  3. Headphone jack

I search and search and even for high prices I usually cannot get these things

But the $35 carrier branded temp replacement phone I bought at the Wal-Mart by the airport?

All three

gadgetoid,

@mcc I don’t know why but β€œfish or clocks” sent me 🀣

@bleeptrack oooh! Teeshirts might be an acceptable compromise, though I'm well supplied. πŸ˜† I'm very fond of jackets, but appreciate the complexity. I have and love this jacket in my collection, and I'm always looking for something new and cool to add. IIRC the artist used a supplier in London and the result is really, really good.

I’d really appreciate someone who understands apt packaging for packages helping me with rpipins and picopins for the . Just used rpipins to debug some inputs and it’s too good to suffer the fate of Python virtual env monkey business!

I use pyproject/hatch. Surely there’s just a β€œmake apt packaging easy” plugin!?

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@ahnlak if it's managed by apt then it's a system package and gets the dubious honour of being installed without hassle or consequence. Unfortunately that means all of its dependencies must also be served via apt.

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

C'mon, I must be able to get a good state sponsored developer to work on this for two years?

Air fryer has really upped my lunches game. Can bash out a β€œcook for 40 minutes” frozen chicken doodad in a third that time, chuck it in a wrap and garnish with a homemade cabbage and carrot slaw. A bit of careful meat thermometer application to ensure I don’t poison myself or totally dry the darn food out 🀣

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@jtruk I really need to try fruit sometime. The chances of any remaining uneaten around here long enough to be dried are slim though!

If you like cinnamon, crumpets and churros then rough chop some crumpets. Toss in cinnamon and brown sugar. Air fry to oblivion. Enjoy!

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@jtruk yeah it’s been stuck in my head for weeks and I somehow keep forgetting to buy crumpets- which is probably for the best!

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@jtruk I think you’re supposed to use butter, too, to make the cinnamon and sugar stick. And y’know to make it… more healthy?
