I appear to have MiniDexed (and circle) supporting ST7789 displays now, which means I can use a Pimoroni Pirate Audio with MiniDexed!

If you only need USB MIDI this is about as simple an option as it will be possible to have.

It would be a particularly neat, self-contained Pi Zero USB Gadget...

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@diyelectromusic ooof, I’m not actually sure- I haven’t seen a lot of hard faults with these displays. Either way it doesn’t look great 😬😬 - new?

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@diyelectromusic I’ve seen software muck up some displays pretty badly, but usually only ones that don’t have their own driver and rely on a sensible signal - IE: DPI or otherwise. I think yours might just be flaky! If by some providence you’re anywhere near Cambs I could probably spot you a replacement 🤣

Edent, to wordpress

I'm being a bit thick with .

Given an arbitrary URl on my blog - how can I get the query which it would execute?

If you've a mind to help - https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/425043/equivalent-of-url-to-postid-for-non-post-urls - much appreciated!

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@Edent afaik the query is entirely arbitrary because it’s governed by whatever template handles that page, rather than any internally consistent logic?

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@Edent oh so you’ve got the URL but nothing else to work with inside your template context? It’s been a looong time since I messed with my templates but afaik you get querystring parameters and the implicit scope that a given template is usually mapped to a given section?

What even is a sub template? 🤣 my theme is 17 years old at this point.

This scandal in the UK. I'm a retired DBA, I had access to everything in every database under my control.

I'm puzzled that anyone in IT would believe that "there's no way Fujitsu staff can access the individual post office accounts; or change values".

This is complete garbage! Any DBA looking after the database can do what they like with the data, and if they wished, cover their tracks too!

It beggars belief that anyone would believe otherwise!

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@NormanDunbar honestly I don’t think anyone does believe otherwise- but the implications of admitting “oh yeah, sure, Fujitsu staff are literally god on this system” in any formal, much less legal, capacity are probably pretty severe.

That’s the crux of technology and privacy- we know the sys admin or db admin has god level access, they know they have god level access, but it remains unspoken because it’s too spicy to think about and too costly to fix 😬

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@NormanDunbar believe because they sincerely believe, or believe because if they admit otherwise - even to themselves - they've just achknowledged a critical security oversight? 😆

Didn't know because they didn't know. Or didn't know because admitting they did know, implies they are culpable for not blowing the whistle.

I mean we all know, right, we've all been the admin getting the user out of a bind, or the user calling the admin for some workaround? 😆

You receive a call on your phone.
The caller says they're from your bank and they're calling about a suspected fraud.

"Oh yeah," you think. Obvious scam, right?

The caller says "I'll send you an in-app notification to prove I'm calling from your bank."

Your phone buzzes. You tap the notification This is what you see.

Still think it is a scam?

gadgetoid,

@Edent I think I might have had pause for thought at “12 digits of your card number” but then I’ve watched/listening to a lot of scam baiting videos and adjacent podcasts. I simply do not answer phone calls.

I also don’t have any money to steal 😭😭

The Mini Plus is on sale on AliExpress alongside a bunch of other retro handhelds from and the like. So it might be a good time to grab one :P

I already have the MM+ on my way so yeah...

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel I’ve lost track of which handheld is which now, I think there’s a new Miyoo (A30) for those who like landscape handhelds. I picked up the Mini Plus after giving away my RP2+ and it’s so damned good for the price. Ported some games to it and added gamepad support to the SDL port, but then got distracted…

gadgetoid,
@gadgetoid@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel effectively means compiling SDL-based games to run on the arcane media SOC that it uses. Godot might be a little ambitious but there are a few open-source Linux games that have seen native ports. Someone also figured out that the Raspberry Pi build of Pico 8 runs too- so that’s why Onion OS (the community alternate “firmware”) can- I think- also support Pico 8 games now. (I’m haven’t updated for a while!)

Y’know like “uos.mount” lets you write a Python block dev driver…
