I was on a train to Krakow the other day and sat across from a really nice older Australian woman. We got talking and the topic of our towns came up

“I am originally Czech, but I’ve been living in a different country for a while. I’m doing my best to be a model immigrant,” I said

“What do you mean that you’re an immigrant? You’re white”

I was a little surprised to hear that

Man after spending the last week and half or so at work using TypeScript I'm back to working in our JavaScript codebase and I'm losing my damn mind.

@drahardja I was resistant to TypeScript for a while, and didn't really appreciate the benefits of static typing until I started learning Swift.

I agree it's just so much nicer to write and I'm honestly more productive because I spend far less time trying to figure out that some random function takes an array but I passed it a string or some nonsense like that.

For the other project that I was working on I had some input on the tech stack and pretty much insisted on using TypeScript. 😂

@robb Yeah Tailwind is a real pain and I would argue makes no sense unless you're working with components. That way it's only a bit less of a pain.

I don't know if this helps but you can apply tailwind classes to HTML elements or ids/classes from your CSS using @ apply

I have a question for the MacBook enjoyers:

I have had a base model M1 Air ever since it came out. It’s been great, but the battery is pretty bad at the moment (around 77% at best). Also, because it’s only the 8GB model, I’m starting to notice some slowdowns.

Do you think it would be worth it to invest in the new M3 Air? I’m planning to get the 16 or 24GB model this time.

I don’t want a Pro because it’s too big, and refurbished isn’t an option either (no refurbished store).

@davidbures I can't speak for the M3 Air, but I've been running an M2 Air for several months, also upgraded from the M1 Air with 8GB.

I opted for 24GB of RAM and it handles everything I throw at it without breaking a sweat.

@davidbures I haven't noticed any significant performance improvements in terms of CPU.

Power consumption has been like night and day though. I get noticeably more battery life than I ever did on my M1 to the point where I don't think I've used my travel charger once.

Starship Troopers but instead of military service, people have to go into Food Service to get citizenship.

Most of the rest of the movie is unchanged.

@SirTapTap As someone who has worked in the food service industry, this actually sounds pretty good to me. Maybe as a society we would produce fewer people who are assholes to service industry workers.

Could just be naive optimism on my part though…

@Aaron On Mac I use Velja for several things, including routing Mastodon links to @ivory. I imagine it would work with @MonaApp as well?

@Aaron That's fair enough. Velja does some other nice stuff like stripping tracking from links but if you're not juggling multiple browsers its a tough sell. 🙂
