@mcc a buddy was paid by GM to do research to use metal hydrides as a storage medium.

It turned out to be an awful problem of pressure and heat transfer. You need pressure vessels capable of greater than 10,000 psi IIRC (the feed lines from their tank farm was 10,000 psi)

The whole project just proved how impractical those storage solution was.

At least he got paid well for it for the years his group worked on it.

Great for guy, also researched hypergolic fuels thick as peanut butter

As my kid enters hour 14 of being in the hospital ER, I hope you never have to helplessly watch your loved one have a seizure while medical staff work at warp speed to help her.

I still have too high of an opinion/expectation of my fellow human.

I think by now we should know how to structure a mass vaccination clinic.

Even the pre-registration could have been a lot better.

@wordshaper basic queuing theory at the very least for check-in/registration.

I suspect only 1 person was from the company that this was outsourced to was there.

That person should understand that.

I get that if IT things are causing problems, but knowing that 1 line feeding more than 1 station is what you do.

Also, clearly marking what each station does or if one is special.

No problem with the volunteers sticking needles in arms. They are at the end of the process and have only that task

    @Hawkmoon @scottmatter @junesim63 I say the USA should build passenger rail in the medians of the interstate system where it can.

    It maps with the places where people generally want to go.

    No land needs to be bought

    Probably the hardest problems to solve is dealing with over passes, and maybe enough space for 2 tracks.

    That's generally my most outlandish public transit idea

    Either idea still has the problem of derailments being extra problematic.

    However, extra safety regulation could make them as safe as the rest of the world's rail systems.

    I guess making it govt owned might make it easier to make sure it's run better than freight rail

    Today I was supposed to be going to Portugal for a (slightly delayed) 25th wedding anniversary trip. Between my injuries and mini-me’s seizure, I am instead at home with sore ribs, a mangled toe, and slightly-distracted by every bit of abnormal behaviour from one of my kids. :(

    Today my wife and mini-me got to experience the reality of how governments at all levels have underinvested in our health care system on purpose to try and make their buddies in private health care rich. 8 hours and counting at a hospital in London.

    I had shared this in FB but not here — mini-me had a seizure on Friday when I got back from my 2nd hospital visit to get pain meds for my bruised ribs (ironically she kicked me in the same ribs while I was getting her on her side). CT scan showed nothing but she’s at a different hospital emerg room right now as her family doctor is concerned about really high white blood cell counts and memory loss. Good thoughts for her please.
