I do not love that a lot of the same driving mentality permeates how people move around on crowded MUPs in If you were in the group of bros loudly ringing your bells in unison to get people walking to move right off the path so you all could blast through the middle so fast I could almost feel you on my left shoulder, well Iā€™ll tell you to fuck off in person when youā€™re stopped next time too. Slow the hell down and wait a singular minute once in a while

And yet the high speed rail being considered from Quebec to Toronto will fuck over the crown corporation VIA Rail in favour of a P3 because P3s continue to show the real value for money of these shit partnerships #ottawa #onpoli #cdnpoli https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/alstom-halts-work-on-redesign-hailed-by-city-as-final-fix-to-lrt-woes-1.7213904

Weā€™ve put roughly 4,800 kms on two e-bikes in just over a year. ~2,800 on the Yuba (no riding Dec-March) since end of April last year and 2,000 kms on our Load4 75 Reise & Muller since the end of August, 2023. Weā€™ve had lots of bus trips and Iā€™m averaging only 9 kms of walking a day. Living without a car can be very fucking frustrating and limiting in a city like but I wouldnā€™t trade it for anything

So we have via rail tickets booked for August and naturally I loaded the tickets in Apple Walletā€¦ then a few days later I got an email saying the schedule was going to change and now Iā€™ve gotten 2 new sets of tickets and Iā€™m sick of adding and deleting tickets šŸ„ø I should be able to just use the same set of tickets regardless of what schedule changes but Iā€™m annoyed at this process. If the time changes by 5 minutes and I need a whole new set of tickets? Gesusā€¦

It is beyond wild to me that the city cut annual funding to the Tulip Festival. Yaā€™ll are baffled on how to connect Dows Lake and the Byward Market?? Seriously?? The NCC couldnā€™t even close all of the QED, but no shade to them when they are responsible for any livability in The festival weekends at Dows Lake are the best weekends in this city in the entire year and props to the Feds

Step-daughter of a friend of ours saw the 11-yr old kid get killed in Rockland, by someone driving a school bus, while they were riding their bike. What the fuckā€¦

Iā€™ve said it a bunch of times but I completely changed the route we take to the kids school which is only 1.2 kms away. We take a ~ 2 km route to avoid the utter mayhem that takes over people during drop offs and pick ups, esp school bus and transport vans

Biked by Britannia Beach today with 2 fire trucks, 5 cop cars and 3 paramedic vehicles all lights and sirens blaring. Apparently a neighbourhood kid is in critical condition after presumably being found unresponsive in the water. Fuck I hate this. Itā€™s so common and yet so easy to avoid and Iā€™ll stake my claim that the beach is one area where phones should just be banned. It takes no time for shit like this to happen with aspirated water in the lungs

So the NCC doesnā€™t seem to have posted on their website that the bike weekend closures are NOT running this weekend, so FYI for those of you who do not follow them on Twitter or instagram šŸ™ƒ Met some folks at the park who were riding on the parkway after 8 AM with kids who had to get the fuck off quickly when people ended up driving behind them #ottawa #ottwalk #ottbike

Chatted with a pharmacist this week about #covid boosters and they can only give them to folks over 65 and immunocompromisedā€¦ unsure what kind of documentation that requires but province wonā€™t pay for anything otherā€¦ all the while movie industry folks I follow on social media show that everyone (actors donā€™t but everyone around them do) on movie sets still have to mask or they lose insurance coverage. So curious why #ottawa #cdnpoli #onpoli

PSA: (and a question). and pulled two ticks off the kid after a hike in Gatineau park. And you NEED to check all of the little ones, especially parts of genitalia you canā€™t just visibly check. Both of these dots are ticks but unsure what kind. Does anyone know if there is a drop off location to get these tested? Lymes disease is shit and the risk increases a LOT after 24-36 hrs attached

This is not cheering for the pay workers get at Chinese EV manufacturing companies or the supply chains etc but the fact that North American car companies have made zero moves to make simple, low cost EVs is pathetic. ā€œFlood the marketā€ blah blah blah. Thereā€™s no free market anyway just protectionism, government subsidies and the gatekeeping to keep EVs at $50,000 a piece. Say nothing of the song and dance about getting folks into EVs

ā€œā€¦ how that policy fits in their low-rise community.ā€ Hahaha you live close to Algonquin college and a 2-story building just busts the great character of your community huh? #ottawa #onpoli https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/proposed-rooming-house-discord-near-algonquin-college-a-sign-of-things-to-come-1.7204363

Commanda Bridge to Alexandra Bridge to the Corktown Bridge is the best parkway to QED connection on weekends. Esp with the new separated lane by the Senate building now, itā€™s the lowest stress route weā€™ve taken in a long time #ottawa #ottbike #biketooter

I walked down Scott St yesterday for a few kms and I canā€™t even remember how many people I saw driving and texting. Stopped at an intersection and using their phones. Using a phone and driving is more dangerous than drinking and driving but the big, bad repercussions do fuck all at deterring people because ā€œrepercussionsā€ are political window dressing. Like, the chances of killing someone while you text and drive are pretty fucking high, but, well, shrug from all involved #cdnpoli #onpoli

Wild how it took so long to do something so simple. Not that I long to visit the byward Market but Majors Hill or Rideau Falls were rarely on the list of destinations if this was the direction of travel. But this makes basic access possible especially with the bridge open and the new NCC lookout on the +50% complete?? status

The solution is to raise speed limits on highways, because data is stupid and definitely should NOT be used to help inform policy ever https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/opp-number-fatalities-last-year-deadly-year-1.7204528

I donā€™t know if weā€™re prepared for how many people do not and will not give a fuck about serious transmissible infectious disease outbreaks and future pandemics. Considering #covid is already over according to every government and no one is seriously grappling with what happened over the past four years, Iā€™m not hopeful on a large scale #cdnpoli #onpoli #ontario

Iā€™m reading Elaminā€™s ā€œSon of Elsewhere.ā€ Iā€™ve been pretty sparing with what bound books I spend time reading. Iā€™ve loved Elamin for a long time and his book is wild. The journey of his writing is beautiful.

Fuck no. There should be well-paid career trajectories for this type of work and it should be incorporated into a Climate Corp structure . Itā€™s highly skilled work, dangerous and thereā€™s huge value in expertise retention. Itā€™s great that university students feel drawn to this but 12 hr days for up to 14 days in a row is brutal, regardless of what Alpha Male chumps whine about

It makes sense that Ford would call an election because there is no opposition, voter turnout out would probably be the same as last time, the PCs have been using our $$$ non-stop the past few months to highlight their successes and because if PP wins, well there is historical precedent that shows the province would dump his provincial affiliation to the federal https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/alcohol-sales-convenience-stores-ontario-1.7213546

Reminder that the city of likes to unilaterally decide when summer starts and ends. Has Britannia Beach been packed for weeks already? Did a 9-yr old just die? Yes. Will this change the cityā€™s approach to funding how the city operates in an era where itā€™s much warmer for longer? No probably not. The speakers mentioning no lifeguards are on duty are like speed signs. Meh, thatā€™s enough
