2024 is a mega election year and the EU elections are taking place this week. This is the 2nd largest election in the world - around 350 million people are eligible to vote.

Just like the elections in India and the USA this year - this one is very important for coexistence on our planet. Therefore, we want to use our reach and call on all those who are entitled to vote to make their voice heard.

We must not leave the EU to the far-right parties and must defend our democracies. Please vote.

With all these stupid Google AI screenshots... The problem isn't so much that LLMs aren't really AI, or that they're not accurate. The problem is the tech companies trying to line their pockets by selling you the idea that LLMs are AI and can be accurate and trusted to answer questions.

It's a tool specifically designed to produce output that convinces you it is exactly what it was asked to be. It's fooling tech giants and they're using it to fool you.

Don't fall for it.

Sierra On-Line accidentally included the source code to their AGI adventure game engine on some copies of Space Quest II. Its presence is not obvious but with enough sector sleuthing it is possible to recover about 70% of it. The recovered source code is peppered with illuminating comments regarding its history and authors. It can be examined in a GitHub repo linked in the article.

Frame City Killer was due to be a launch title for the , though numerous delays and quality issues would eventually result in the game being cancelled by Namco in 2006. Could something be found of this once promising title?

Cool history! 50 years of CP/M:

"This may have been one of the most exciting days of my life, … We now have the power of an IBM S/370 [mainframe computer] at our fingertips." This is going to be a "big thing," they told each other.

Took a stab at getting the Cyberpunk 2077 prototype from 2013 running. It's uh, not in a good state, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the scripts executing successfully at this rate, but at least I can load into some of the levels now.

Is there anywhere that has latency tests for portable monitors other than RTINGS? They only have a handful of reviews, and none of those monitors are low latency.

HTML is when you put pictures and words together, and it is not possible

emily,
@emily@sparkly.uni.horse avatar

oh no, I just realized something: HTML gets more bloated over time. Image compression improves over time. There will come a day, if it hasn't already, when - even with an ad blocker - it is actually more bandwidth-efficient to share a screenshot than a link due to the sheer volume of meaningless container divs.

Been reversing things for SWAT Global Strike Team recently, and it's probably got one of the more messy file trees I've seen. A lot of filenames are appended with what I can only guess are commands to their content tools. Oh, and made some progress getting textures loaded; they're just using DXT1 & DXT5 compression.

I've made all the textures available here after converting them all. Might be good for custom Half-Life or, hell, Half-Life 2 maps.
