In my experience as an educational designer in the non-formal space, interactive learning design is the only way to go. Activities might include passive, active or constructive sections, but it all should lead to interactivity, where the real learning happens. The synergy – as I tend to reference it – is where learning outgrows primary educational outcomes and becomes immersive & highly retentive. Learners need to have a stake in the process, otherwise it's useless.

My Father used to tell me this silly joke when I was a child. I don't like retelling it nowadays but you asked for similar "tales." Not told in Austria though, but the former SFRJ and its aftermath.

A hunchback walks by the cemetery at midnight & the devil addresses him from the bushes: "Hey, what's that on your back?"

"It's my hunch."

"Do you need it?"

"Not really."

A hand reaches out & removes the hunch.

He happily goes home. The next day, he tells the story to his limping friend. The friend thinks a bit & goes to the cemetery the same night. The devil calls from the bushes: "Hey, why are you walking like that?"

"My legs are of different length, that's my limp."

"Do you have a hunch?"

"No, I do not."

"Here's one, then." With that, a hand reaches out & places the hunch on the man's back.

Is there a book on the history of video games being made addictive? Video games from my childhood in the 80s don't come back to me as addictive - enjoyable certainly, but no more a compulsion than watching a favorite movie. The first game I remember having compulsion over was probably Civ 2, somewhat, and full-on with Everquest. Now, it seems to be a default quality of video games that they should induce compulsive play, and it's just sort of accepted, but it's kind of weird?

There are two phenomenons to consider here: the first that playing (fun) games releases dopamine and potentially other hormones (depending on the game content) and games, throughout their short history, have become more fun to play. Give Space Quest IV to a today's child and they'll give up after 10mins. The second is exploiting the human mind for addiction, like gamification, loot & bling, dailies and fostered community pressure. This second aspect is not always present.

I used it and while I think it had some intelligent ideas behind it, it also had issues. Certainly eons ahead of the still more popular alternative. I didn't engage too much with it and I don't miss it.

UPDATE: Aaaarrgghhhhhhh! 😱 I had a number of people asking me for clarification of the poll, so I edited option wording, but this caused it to reset the responses to zero. I am so sorry! 🥴

The latest figures before I messed this up were this:

About 75% of people clicking on a link to a Mastodon post saw it displayed a normal post, 25% saw it displayed in a browser window.

I meant that the votes would still be removed. So there would be no incentive to manipulate the poll. But the voters would be warned that: "hey, the poll you voted on previously has been changed – do you want to vote again?"

My pathology had a paper with on the door before which we all waited for the . It stated:

"First you ask me a , I & we discuss it.

Then I ask two questions, both initiating a short discussion on their own.

Demonstrating a good grasp in one discussion is enough for a passing grade.

For a 10 [best grade], inquisitiveness that reaches wider than what's in the books is required."

In a DnD5e campaign, I'm playing a tank tiefling battle master called Karugg. His backstory tells that a necromancer murdered his family & he managed to kill the (aspiring) baddie with a huge stroke of luck. Been a mercenary ever since.

Everyone in our group thought Charisma is not a great stat to pump points into & Karugg ended up being the most "charismatic" character... & the least wise. You can imagine how well that fares during most social interactions. A lot of fun to play him.

Alright, there is much over in . While I embrace what offer, why are so many people going mad over the topic? I mean, I'm not a grandmaster in the field (I've been doing it for 15 yrs "only") & am pro , but what's wrong with using less tech?

Tech should be integrated to a degree & definitely taught about, but beyond that it will mostly get in the way. Effective has less to do with tech & all to do with .

Interesting take, especially about systemic flaws being illuminated by the (mis)use of LLMs.

While I will refrain from speaking in pluralis majestatis, I do have to raise a concern. There already were solutions since before the rise of LLMs (& we keep making new research), often not tech related. Formal edu in most countries chose to stay behind.

Your comment also offers useful food for thought to consider this tech as a means towards transformation. Maybe it will help?
