@jan do you feel sick? If no, you've not yet reached too much coffee.

Six years ago I left the 3rd line Linux/Unix team.

I still get Linux questions from time to time...

So, we bought mealworms (dried) for the chickens: they're not interested. Luckely the wild birds are.

We got some 'toys', things they could peck at: not interested.

The best thing is cut grass or other greens they can eat. The rest is meh.

@jan Things that get chickens exited: greens that are covered in insects and such, disturbing a bit of ground in their coop with a spade (carefully, with overexited chickens al around) and leftover spaghetti

peturdainn,

@Klara @jan oh yes spaghetti 😂

Can anyone recommend a good town builder game without too much competitive stuff? Just something to build a nice town in.

I love RTS games but sometimes just the build without the bash would be nice.

@haploc that might work. Link?

My new hue outdoor (SML004) reports wildly different lux values than my old (SML002).

Direct sunlight: old - 25000+, new: 7000+. That's a three fold difference, atleast.

@peturdainn @jan I put one of those temp sensors outside in a bag, but the battery is dead in a few days when it’s cold.

@stroobl @jan rechargeable ones? I know Li-Ion is a nono but others should be OK?

Anyways, I try to power from the net where I can

Has anyone ever seen the effect that a top-level recursive shows no more changes, but then going in the sub directories and doing individual rsyncs does give a lot of diff?

We're trying to figure out why that happens, and coming up empty.

Both FS are ext4, source server has been quieted (and FS even mounted r/o to make sure)

Rhel7 to rhel8. Rsync 3.1.2
Please boost.

ferki,
@ferki@fosstodon.org avatar

@jan Sounds interesting!

Adding -i or --itemize-changes to the rsync options should make it "output a change-summary for all updates", like this:

>f..T...... filename

If you add it twice, it should output it even for unchanged files on recent enough rsync versions.

The manpage of rsync explains the meaning of those flags. For example the above is:

> means the item is being received
f means it's a file
. means unchanged attribute
T means the modification time will be set

Hope this helps!

ferki,
@ferki@fosstodon.org avatar

@jan Sooo...did --itemize-changes help explain why rsync thinks it should sync specific items again?

I'm curious what's causing the behavior you described 🤔

So I bought a bunch of stuff to build an display based off an board, sort of mixing and matching stuff up from a few project I had found.

I had assumed that the hardware would be supported by , but the amount of stuff that especially me actually supports is... Disappointingly low.

So, besides learning how esphome works, I now get to figure out how to add a 3rd party library in there and how to write a panel description so it can drive it.

Fun times ahead, not.

peturdainn,
@peturdainn@mastodon.social avatar

@jan check out M5PaperWeather, maybe you happen to have compatible hardware

I'm still baffled that cost the same as physical .

Makes zero sense. Authors should get their fair share, but to the publishers there's a world of difference in costs.

philipdutre,
@philipdutre@mastodon.online avatar

@jan What type of costs are you talking about? Any comparisons, both production-wise and maintenance-wise? But anyway, price points are not determined by production costs alone.

@jan @haploc I hit over 9000 enqueue yesterday. First time that has happened to me since I spun my instance in late 2022. It just kept adding up. It would get down to 5K then jump back up. The day before I had a backlog of over 3000.

I went to the live feeds, all, & Flipboard (.com) Magazines, sometimes 7, 8, 9 posts of the same content from different accounts/magazines, endlessly. When Flipboard died down, my backlog cleared up quickly. Are they posting in batches? Maybe unrelated, but odd.
