Western States training camp day 2 was an adventure. Weather called for 20% chance of rain, it rained on me for 6 hours. The GPX course that I built was off and I had to bail a little earlier than planned. But I felt great and am finally feeling fit.

@Johan_Barelds @WTL it was a little comical. Forecast said 20% chance of rain and temps going up to 60° F. It rained for 6 hours and was 45°. I thankfully had a light jacket and gloves but that was some type 2 fun for a little while. My wife was out on a bike, she had it worse!

An example of love is when @TAV watches Spring on our anniversary and The Crow the next day (both love stories in my book). 🧡

Thursday: 151 seconds of plank, 75 pushups, followed by 6.8 km of #running (-12°C with a windchill of -18°C), I shortened the run as my right leg started bugging me around KM5, so I opted to play it safe and cut it short, did groceries, and walked home (a podcast pointed out that carrying your groceries home was an excellent weight-bearing exercise).

#FirstSong: Nine Inch Nails’ Dead Souls from The Crow soundtrack. (such a great movie and soundtrack)

@WTL that soundtrack speaks directly to my heart.

Wednesday: 150 seconds of plank, 30 pushups, followed by 10.6 km of (+2°C and misting). Figure I'd try some pushups to see how the should was feeling.

The run was a real slog. Dense, heavy snow, with a layer of slush under it. Sidewalks are an icy mess. I got splashed by two pickup trucks, once about 1km into the run and intentionally about 1 km from home. 🤬

was Inshouha’s Beam! - while I was running for a change, as I ran out of podcasts ~2km from home.

@WTL Hate things like this. I had someone try to hit me in the bike lane while making and illegal pass. I was in my neighborhood near a kids park. I shook my head and put my arms out to the side like WTH. They turned around and tried to fight me. People sometimes just suck. I am sorry they did that to you.

I was looking something up in my 2023 spreadsheet and thought I'd share some interesting bits; the average temperature of my runs last year was 3°C, and wore pants 51 days of the year (for running). Did I mention I'm a giant nerd that tracks everything? 🤣

@WTL tracking pants is different level, but I love this. I really should have a log outside of garmin/strava/TP but I have never been successful in keeping it. Also, if I have pants on it’s too damned cold to be out.

@NerdRunner @WTL @sebastianhahn I have been using RPE for years to assess my runs, this link explains approx how I use the scale. https://thestringbean.co/how-and-why-runners-use-rate-of-perceived-exertion-rpe/

Thursday: 149 seconds of plank, 100 pushups, followed by 22.3 km of #running (+2°C with rain), and then zero minutes of kettle bells.

This was a rough run. It was damp, cold and raining, and everything felt like a struggle.

…and turned out to be my fastest half-marathon of the year. 🤷🏻

When I got home I was chilled to the bone and skipped kettle bells so I could get into the hot shower to warm back up.

Easily worse than -30°C (to me, anyway).

@WTL congrats on a solid time during a shit run. Bodies are so weird.

I don’t journal, so I have no opinion on the Journal app, but yeah, it seems to be pretty basic in 1.0 like other Apple apps. Ask Figma or Miro users how basic Freeform was (still is) when it launched 😝

@matt it’s insanity to me this is phone only at launch. The iPad would be perfect for this use case. I’m not long form typing on my phone.
