It’s really frustrating the pedestrian bridge at Carleton still looks like this! If it were a parking lot it would be open by now! #autowa#ottawalkers#ottawa
#TheCrimeCats say local government is just stooges for developers and the owner class, dedicated to upholding and continuing the legacy of violence perpetrated by police against the citizens. they don't work for us, they never have and never will.
On my way to work a pickup truck driver was pulling in to park but really fast and aggressively so I was worried it would hit me and when I jumped out of the way in fear the driver laughed hysterically.
It’s been getting warmer. That means carbage season in Autowa! Like tulips from the snow, abandoned car parts from crashes, near-misses and disintegrating vehicles are everywhere! What carbage are you finding in your neighborhood? #autowa#carbage#ottawa
This morning I almost got hit by an #Autowa driver on my street who wasn’t paying attention and I had to jump back because they didn’t notice me. Then when I waved my arms at them in frustration they got mad at me.
When I moved here in the 90s, everyone used to to mock Montreal drivers - careless, distracted, reckless turns, ignoring signals, just dangerous to all involved. But now the tables have really turned. Ottawa drivers are among the worst in the land. If we did a pop drivers ed quiz one day, there would be lot more people taking the bus. #ottawa#autowa
There are bus stops in Centretown where you have to climb over snowbanks to get on and off the bus and sidewalks that still aren’t cleared, but we are clearing snowbanks so people can park on side streets.
Spotted: O’Connor/Laurier. Clownvoy-type vehicle festooned with whackadoodle anti-15 minute city messaging. Driver frantically negotiating to move from right turn lane to left turn lane. You’d think someone so enthusiastic about car dependence would be better at operating one. #ottawa#autowa#clownvoy
I love my car free life it’s so nice not having to deal with the stress of driving, I just wish I didn’t have to deal with the stress of drivers. So much #Autowa honking tonight. Wish I didn’t have to hear the driving anger it reminds me how miserable car dependence is.
My job is to make movement easier for the people on this road/driveway.
My job is to make movement easier for people in general.
Most plow drivers seem to be at #2 or #3. As a pedestrian, and winter cycling enthusiast (to be clear, I’m a supporter, not a participant, yet), I really wish more plow drivers and snow removal contractors were at #5.
Every time I go for a walk, I have to jump over places on the sidewalk where a contractor has carelessly thrown the snow from a driveway (thought - is this a bylaw infraction?). Not to mention all the times a sidewalk has been plowed, only to be filled in again by a street plow.
I’ll be back in the spring, complaining how all the winter crap from the streets gets pushed into bike lanes…
Today really put a point on how car centric even my very pedestrian heavy neighbourhood is. Not a single driver gave me any sort of respect or space as I rode on Somserset, Welly W, and Armstrong. There's no space bc of snow, and still people park on both sides. What should have been easy peasy errands turned into a frustrating, race-to-get-home chore. #Autowa
Wednesday: 150 seconds of plank, 30 pushups, followed by 10.6 km of #running (+2°C and misting). Figure I'd try some pushups to see how the should was feeling.
The run was a real slog. Dense, heavy snow, with a layer of slush under it. Sidewalks are an icy mess. I got splashed by two pickup trucks, once about 1km into the run and intentionally about 1 km from home. 🤬 #autowa#Ottawa
#FirstSong was Inshouha’s Beam! - while I was running for a change, as I ran out of podcasts ~2km from home.
How do I know it was intentional? Whenever I see a large “splash-zone" puddle, I shoulder-check for traffic and saw the red pickup in the centre lane and figured it was okay. They must have immediately changed to the right lane and drove through the puddle, getting me head to foot. And then … I saw them turn their head to look at me and laughed. #Ottawa#autowa
The reality of it is, while I was pissed off for a few seconds, my coat is waterproof, my shorts are quick-dry, my shoes were already soaked, and I was close to home.
Mainly I'm sad for him — how broken of a person do you have to be to get a moment of joy from doing something like that? If he tells anyone about it, he's simply signalling he's a jerk. 🤷🏻
