jcalexandrewrites, to OnePiece

So I’m nearly halfway through watching One Piece. Why do I get the feeling that Boa Hancock is going to convince Luffy to marry her the same way Chi Chi convinced Goku: by telling him that their wedding will include a feast? 😂

jcalexandrewrites,

@TheFederatedPipe I get that. But I also know he’s the type of person who would totally agree to marry someone if they promised a grand wedding feast. Dude thinks with his stomach more than his mind. 😂

jcalexandrewrites,

@TheFederatedPipe At this point, I’m at 475, so the Arc where he goes to save his brother.

jcalexandrewrites,

@TheFederatedPipe Is it the one where Boa Hancock fantasizes about marrying Luffy and cooking him a grand feast? Because I saw that episode.

jcalexandrewrites, to internet

Honestly, I think the greatest damage done to internet discourse is convincing people that blocking users is "censorship" or "admitting defeat" or "creating an echo chamber."

My brother in Christ, I have a right not to argue with every Tom, Dick, and Harry who wants to pick a fight with me. And the internet makes it easy for me to do so.

That's not censorship. That's not creating an echo chamber. That is self-preservation and creating healthy boundaries.

jcalexandrewrites, to Ethics

"There are altogether no moral facts. Moral judgments agree with religious ones in believing in realities which are no realities. Morality is merely an interpretation of certain phenomena—more precisely, a mis-interpretation...Moral judgments are therefore never to be taken literally: so understood, they always contain mere absurdity." - Friedrich Nietzsche

Nietzsche is right: if there is no God then morality is an absurdity.

jcalexandrewrites,

@Gustodon LOL! A ghost is the disembodied spirit of a dead person. God didn’t die. Therefore, he isn’t a ghost. LOL!

Reasons you should watch my review of :

  • Reviews a grossly underrated Netflix show.
  • Discusses excellent trans and autistic rep.
  • Explains difference between folks who view media as art and those who view it as content.

If you're upset about implementing a new policy to ban underage smut, that says WAY more about YOU than it does deviantART.

Just saying.

Dr. Manhattan is an eternal mood.

jcalexandrewrites, to OnePiece

“But if the writers and actors strike continues, we’re going to run out of new shows and movies to watch!”

My brother in Christ, I’m currently 200 episodes in to binge watching a 1000 episode anime. I’m fairly sure the strike will be long over before I even complete the series. I’ll be fine.

jcalexandrewrites, to politics

Look, at this point, I’m as critical about our current capitalist system as much as anyone else. At the most, I’m willing to consider myself a social democrat. Maybe even a socialist. But I can never be a un-ironically.

I can’t, for the life of me, understand how anyone can look at communist countries from the Soviet Union to China and North Korea and think to themselves, “yeah, that’s a system we need to emulate.”

jcalexandrewrites,

“But the Soviet Union wasn’t a REAL communist country! None of the countries that called themselves communist were REAL communism.”

So you admit there have been no real life examples of communism working? Cool!

Overly-complicated magic systems are both unnecessary and uninteresting. Plus it defeats the purpose of magic. Like, if it can be explained, it’s not magic, it’s science.

This is not to say all complex magic systems are bad. I like many stories with them. Naruto. Fullmetal Alchemist. The Last Airbender.

But not every fantasy story NEEDS to explain the magic. Sometimes, “a wizard did it” is a good enough explanation in a story with wizards.

jcalexandrewrites,

@tw @lunalein @bookstodon

Well, there’s a good reason for that.

God DID do it.

So, is it possible to mass block people who use certain hashtags?

I ask because I spent the past hour searching for a certain hashtag and blocking people who use it.

I know it’s possible to filter certain hashtags (I’d like to know how to do that, too), but, for me, that’s not enough. I want to actively block people who use them. Is that possible?

jcalexandrewrites, to Christianity

(1/3) The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced most people reject because of insecurity.

Most people assume they're good people—or, at least, good enough. At least they're not the "worst" person. They're not "bad", so they must be "good", right?

Christianity doesn't teach that. It tells people, upfront, that they are not as good as they think they are.

Juliet Capulet was fucking 13 and we're all awful people for being ok with this story for this goddamn long.

jcalexandrewrites,

@GrimmReality You know, it’s wild how Romeo and Juliet are considered a shorthand for “true love.” Their character arc is literally about how fickle and feckless young love is. They literally get married and kill themselves on a whim. Most folks consider that “romantic” when, in reality, it shows how impulsive, naive, and lacking in real world experience teenagers are. In the end, they’re impulsive teenagers who confuse infatuation with “true love.”

If you want to know why I don’t bother debating people on here (or anywhere), allow me to quote someone else: "The chance to explain observable things to someone who has already declared their intention to not observe them is not as enticing a proposition as many people seem to believe."

So…I’m stumbling across the weirdest reviews for the . Like, take a look at this wild take. I have not seen the movie yet. Can anyone confirm if this stuff actually happens? (In a non-spoiler-y way?) Or is this guy just making things up? 😳

jcalexandrewrites, to animation

I watched last night. The only thing stopping me from calling it the best animated film of the year is that I already saw . Vivid and art style, hilarious slapstick and humor, and the best inversion of a fairy tale since Shrek!

It’s a shame tossed this film aside. I want to see this world in Kingdom Hearts. I want to see Nimona and Ballister as emojis in Emoji Blitz. I want to play as them in Sorcerer’s Arena and Heroes Battle Mode. 😫

Behindthepages, to books

Book mail!!! This is me starting the Forgotten Realms collection I paused in my teen years. Wish me luck. 🙃 Also if anyone knows a compete list of the series let me know! There's Fevre Dream thrown in I snagged for a book club as well. And boy do I have thoughts on that one. @bookstodon

jcalexandrewrites,

@Behindthepages @bookstodon Really loving those vintage covers. I can almost smell them!
