Driving down the back road and Mom with two baby Fisher cat cubs ran across road in front of me. This cub ran back the other way, after snarling at me first. 😃

jerzone,
@jerzone@techhub.social avatar

That was pretty exciting! It was close to the first place I’d ever seen a Fisher, albeit a dead one years ago, so maybe their territory? The teeth on that baby when it snarled at me!
I was so flummoxed that I got mostly photos of trees, not even close to anyone.

@Topslakr These were Fisher, not Bobcat, although I'd love to see one of those.

(not my video, but a good closeup!)

I just watched some videos with fisher cat calls. Reminds me of hiking with dog deep in the woods once and suddenly dog shows up and runs right past me, then this god-awful sound filled the woods and it was both of us running!

Doctors advise that placing blankets on floor may have unintended side effects, including drowsiness in dogs and periods of spontaneous napping.

Despite the nuclear technician’s assurances, as he pulled lead encased syringe out of lead lined case and injected into my arm, that “this won’t have any side effects” it was an evening of ghastly radioactive farts and a morning of urgently rebellious guts.

Just writing that down before my brain does a fourier transform on the experience, smoothing it out to a “that wasn't bad” memory.

You can extract the cat from a busy background, but you can't cheer it up.

Guess who fledged?

Not pointing fingers, but this was the last thing the outdoor cam recorded. I found it sunk in the pond later. Still works, sadly it didn’t record pond life due to no underwater Wi-Fi.

Chicken emerges from plants along pond, pecking randomly, and walks right in front of camera.

Checked out our little home pond. Sticking phone underwater for tadpoles it’s hard to tell what’s in frame and focus. With the big frogs you just move slow and they totally don’t notice.

Smaller frog on a rock, enjoying sunshine
Big frog spooked off its rock into shallow water, but not noticing or caring about the phone in its face.

The good news: got out for a ride with the kid!
The bad news: “I'm not sure I like biking any more.” 😭😱

We did find an interesting blob of jelly in a recently dried water puddle. If you look close at the second one there's inhabitants!

@elduvelle here’s the view from the rail trail looking up today. Not as dramatic. As your view.

Do most people's trails randomly surface relics from a bygone era?

jerzone,
@jerzone@techhub.social avatar

@Topslakr Yeah, we get a lot on the rail trail. This is in the woods, up on top of a hill, quarter mile from any roads (at least current ones!), and thick tree cover. Then again, for all I know it could have been the site of a farm or even a business a hundred years ago.

@jerzone@techhub.social avatar

@Topslakr There's a section that was clearcut when I first started biking and hiking back in the 90’s, but now you wouldn’t really know, there's a pretty well established forest now.

Guess: which of these appliances consumes the greatest amount of energy (as in kWh/month) in my home?

#HomeAssistant

jerzone,
@jerzone@techhub.social avatar

@xahteiwi Heating water and drying? We run hot water faucet next to dishwasher before starting it to ensure it's not filling with cold/cool water to start and disable that water heating. We usually turn off the drying cycle as well, just crack open the dishwasher at the end, give everything a shake, and let it air dry. Haven't instrumented it for power differences though.
