One of my biggest uses of time throughout my life has been just watching nothing happen, like I have lost thousands of hours to watching front loading washing mashines, bittorrent piece graphs, following water along a gutter until I find the drain and then doing it again. .. I thought I had seen all the pointless things....

But holy shit have you watched shallow water less than a cm deep boil in a cast iron pan with varying degrees of starch in the water because that is the coolest

Ok but like seriously the cast iron is a great heat buffer and the starch makes the water behave in the weird ways that water does as this odd sticky colloid, and you can see the temperature gradients settle and surge against the viscousness as you add more water and let it boil off and set barriers. The convection currents are visible too bc shallow and it is like being able to see energy itself

I love how Mandela effect people correct each other. Since they believe in the underlying premise, but not this specific instance, they'll say something to the effect of "in my reality timeline it is fine, maybe its only yours that got screwed up" and I think thats actually a lovely way to talk to people across minor differences in belief

@ntnsndr @robin @boris on the other hand, i am curious about what it even means to run a PDS, if it has any impact - for good or ill, community identity or concentration of power - on your experience of the protocol. I think the design is for the answer to that to be "no," but then i would be curious why anyone would run one at all.

In this new gilded age, second one worse than the first, why dont we have general strikes? How would you organize one? It certainly seems like it should be easier than doing it hand to hand out of Union halls. Maybe organizing on the surveillance machine and communicating on the outrage megaphone where every uprising gets liquidated into Content is worse than nothing. Maybe the ppl who took everything by giving us the crumbs while taking the pie had a plan, and maybe we fell for it.

My cat kicked away her bed, dragged her bag over in front of the fireplace, and is holding it closed by the handle to use it as a sleeping bag. This is an absolutely mind blowing amount of physical intuition for her, because usually she does not know she can move things larger than her toys, and she only recently discovered that being tucked in is a warm thing to do.

@msh i don't have a thermostat, but she does try and put her face in the hole that has the lever to control the heater all the time. i think she knows that that place is related to the heat being on in some way, but that's also where the pilot light is and she should not be sticking her furry little face in that.

Sort of unsettling how in Pokemon world, if you have already completed a quest before getting it, the person giving it to you just stops abruptly midsentence, Brief pause for loading world state, and then they just vanish into midair because their purpose in this reality has expired

I dont plan to have kids except for if social norms and human body plans radically change so that I can get in on that thing that spiders and scorpions and whatnot have where you just have a hundred of your babies clinging to all over the outside of your body for awhile while theyre growing up
