I spent the evening with about 8000 sandhill cranes in the Kankakee Marsh. Here’s a few of them (sound up!)

“Joe Biden is expected to sign an executive order on safe, secure, and trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI). The order includes many principles that the Center for American Progress has been calling for since April, including an all-of-government approach to AI that encompasses the framework of the 2022 AI Bill of Rights. Alondra Nelson, senior fellow at CAP who previously played a leading role in developing the AI Bill of Rights, issued the following statement:”

A function of legal cannabis in every surrounding state is planes towing weed adverts

Out on the edge of darkness
There rides the weed plane
Weed plane take this country
Come take me home again
Weed plane sounding louder
Glide on the weed plane
Ooh-ah ee-ah ooh-ah
Come on now weed plane
Yes weed plane holy roller
Everyone jump upon the weed plane
Ooh-ah ee-ah ooh-ah
Come on now weed plane
Get your bags together
Go bring your good friends too
Because it's getting nearer
It soon will be with you

Request for recommendations: What are three that would be fun to watch together? It doesn't have to be a formal trilogy (though I'd be interested in suggestions for trilogies from outside the U.S.). Could be variations on a theme, best works of a favorite director/actor, etc. Thanks in advance!

Diagram of STSNW Subspace Rhapsody:

  1. Epic tragedy as Kirk’s nascent romance with La’an Noonien-Singh is dampened by his relationship with Carol Marcus who is pregnant with Kirk’s son David who will be murdered 30 years later by Klingons as a result of events precipitated by LNS’s distant ancestor Khan.

  2. Glad to see the Heisenberg compensators getting some screen time.

Some interesting results and commentary here at the halfway mark in this completely nonscientific convenience survey. Reported use of mobile Mastodon is highly dissected. IceCubes, FediLab, and Elk seem to dominate the "other" category about equally.

I find my best mobile Mastodon experience is in a mobile browser (usually Firefox). I find it just as easy to navigate as any app and I also have access to all my lists and settings. I just reloaded the apps this evening to see if I felt improvement (I did not).

What’s your preferred mode of mobile Mastodon? Feel free to add details in the replies.

today my mastodon feed feels like the kind of feed i want. lots of interesting news on Indigenous issues, environment, and science. i think i'm gonna stick with this one. One month off twitter, and no regrets.

i have yet to have a troll here, but when i do, i retain my twitter skills for that.

I forget what I did to attract some, but one of my posts started getting reposted by racists to garner more nasty replies from their racist servers. They piled on fast. It was scary. I wondered if decentralization of the Fediverse would impede moderation. But I blocked the individuals and their whole servers. When I reported it to my admins they added those servers to block lists which were propagated out across Mastodon pretty quickly.
