@kjr I’m really not good at this. got Ollama running, tested it with local llms with a specific dataset, prompts, etc, cross evaluated responses, and would love to now improve that with a RAG setup and get better responses

@jon when I go on a morning run I frequently see 1-3 foxes in Schoeneberg, squirrels galore and also a few bunnies. The foxes sometimes are less that 2m away and not scared one bit! Sometimes feels like a petting zoo

"Commander McLane and the crew of the fast space cruiser Orion patrol Earth's outposts and colonies in space and defend humanity."

A reboot was under consideration two years ago, but no news since.

@TheSpaceshipper awesome show, very old school in a good way. They made gold from nothing, recycling old yoghurt cups as decoration. The main console features a reappropriated clothes iron as thrust control

Just had one of those horrifying I'm-old-now thoughts... I sometimes use Data from Star Trek as an analogy when talking about AI (like emphasizing that LLMs really aren't Data, even if they occasionally do a good impression of him)

... except I just realized Star Trek: The Next Generation aired before a lot of the people I talk to about this stuff were even born!

There’s a sort of refrain from business-ish, public affairs people I know in Brussels that “Mastodon didn’t take off because it’s too hard to use”

I see it differently - Mastodon isn’t hard to use. But it’s missing network wide search, that I found very useful on Twitter

And now the same people are swooning over Threads… that doesn’t have network wide search either

It’s ultimately that building a network on Mastodon takes time and effort - that’s actually what they’re complaining about

@jon yeah it reminds me of my days when I was still assembling my own PCs. And then hated windows and switched to Linux. And then got a job and switched to Mac on my 30th.

Point is: it takes some time and thought that most people are unable to invest into this. So it scales slowly. And still doesn’t have true global reach, maybe never will.

As stupid as I find threads a lot of people will soon be on it from countries that have never heard of mastodon. That’s a chance!

@heiseonline Twitter hat eine globale Abdeckung und ist - wie Facebook teilweise auch - kaum wegzudenken aus vielen Ländern wie z.B. Kenia, viele Firmen vertreiben darüber auch Produkte. Das zu ersetzen wird schwierig, aber da hat Threads mit dem einfachen Umzug von potentiell Hunderten Millionen Nutzerinnen zumindest eine sehr gute Chance zu.
