Let's make a communal 5e character.

We'll start with a piece of mundane equipment -- a signet ring.

What type of person starts their adventuring life with a signet ring from an important house?

I don't want my hobbies to make me sad

karlnelson,
@karlnelson@mastodon.world avatar

@bedirthan Yup. Agree on both counts.

One a recent SaH podcast, someone made the point that Nico (who wants to be everywhere all the time) doesn't fit the system the Sounders want to play. So, even at $500k, it just might not be the right thing.

Still. GOAT.

karlnelson,
@karlnelson@mastodon.world avatar

@bedirthan I've managed to convince myself that Nico leaving is best for both parties. Until today, I'd held out a tiny shred of hope (like, 1%) that he'd come back on a cheaper deal, but really, I'm not sure that would have been good for either the team or him. And I’m pretty impressed with how both Nico and the team have handled the departure.

But yeah, hard to not be a tiny bit sad.

This is getting a little nervy for the . Gotta make sure this doesn’t get out of hand. And the Sounded have looked decent in the attack, except for, and stop me if you’ve heard this, the actual scoring of goals.

Workbench holes successfully drilled. The holdfast does indeed hold things fast. (It’s a tight fit, so I’ll likely need to fine tune it.)

I was…not expecting that chisel to be so big. 🤣😬 (The biggest of the drill bits is an inch wide, for scale.)

@bedirthan I feel like being a sports fan is helpful in situations like this. It helps to remember that even the best players sometimes have an off day. And it's okay.

I have a new phone in hand. But the switching from old phone to new phone experience for so long was so poor that I don't really want to start the process.

I know in my head that it's much easier now.

My heart tho

While I'm on a video rant, what's with all these YouTube woodworking people whose benches look more pristine than the counters in Eric Ripert's kitchen?

karlnelson,
@karlnelson@mastodon.world avatar

@jappel It doesn’t bother me overly much, in part because I mentally categorize YouTube into two groups: entertainment and education. I like and watch videos from both groups, but the entertainment-focused ones tend to have fancier spaces/stuff.

After about 6 months, I finished up a guitar I built for my 16yr old kid. We used maple (which is heavy, but sturdy). It's a Telecaster body style, and he picked out the electronics. We're both pretty happy with how it turned out!

@ottaross Oh, I have no shortage of projects! I’m building a boat (http://boat.karlnelson.net), and I'm starting on a solid-body electric guitar for my older kid.

karlnelson,
@karlnelson@mastodon.world avatar

@ottaross “crubber" actually (https://benchcrafted.com/products/crubber). It came with the vise hardware.

On the advice of the author of the book I followed (https://lostartpress.com/products/the-anarchists-workbench), I used epoxy to attach it. But, I'm sure contact cement would work just fine, too.

karlnelson,
@karlnelson@mastodon.world avatar

@ottaross Thanks! It already has some nicks and dents, and I keep reminding myself that it's a workbench and meant to be used. That helps me from getting too precious with it.

friends:

Say you had a 17 ft long board, and you wanted to make several rip cuts. (And fairly thin rips -- about 30mm.)

Let's also posit that the table saw you have access to is in a room that isn't going to accommodate a board that long.

What would you do?

Track saw?

We also just learned that they’re 100% sticking to the no talking thing…
