Broken package in (unstable): libelogind-compat depends on the unavailable dependency libsystemd0.

Guess I'll hold back for a few days while this gets sorted out ;)

This is a nice quick guide to render HTML emails into , and make it more or less automatic, including setting a preference for plaintext first, HTML fallback.

Lovely mutt. I should write up a quick guide or something about it, too, because I learn something new about it almost every other day. This should work as a nice documentation should I ever have to rebuild the config myself one day.

YouTube's shenanigans, so I've ditched them...kind of.

@kev that's a nice extension there, quite complete! But for just the redirection issues, I chose the redirector extension with some rules I wrote. Never been to youtube's page ever since!

@gyptazy beautiful! This whettens my appetite concerning trying out more ARM-based SBCs that are not the Raspberry Pi <3

@gyptazy oh, just saw it's riscv... but still, other SBCs not RPi-based!

There's something magical and relieving about picking up an old laptop on a lazy Saturday afternoon and updating it from the console. No distractions, no browsers, no inneficiency. Just pure computing at its most raw form. :coffee:

Have a great weekend, everyone.

As much as I hate to admit it, might actually be lighter and faster than on Linux in the .

It can even run Office365+MS Teams on just over 3GB RAM total use.

(merit for that being of Debian for the efficience, not MS's)

kzimmermann,
@kzimmermann@fosstodon.org avatar

@tripplehelix it's whatever is in the 12 arm64 repos. I only use straight Debian on the Pi since discovering an image for it, and will never use that horrible Raspberry Pi OS image they make again.

kzimmermann,
@kzimmermann@fosstodon.org avatar

But I guess in the end I won't be switching to Chromium at all. It's just too weird and clunky for me.

No automatic history / cookies deletion, no browser containers, plans to remove adblocking, and too much "let Google in," even if the Debian version defangs it considerably by default.

Firefox, even with its flaws, is still simply better for me.

kzimmermann,
@kzimmermann@fosstodon.org avatar

@l13u7anant @tripplehelix IMO they're the "ubuntu" of SBCs, trying to know better than the user and all, and imposing tools specifically for their distribution that don't work across OSes. This annoyed me. Then I discovered that other familiar distros produced RPi images, gave them a shot and bam - never going back. I chose Debian arm64.

Furthermore, if you're looking for performance, ditch Linux altogether. is the way to go on the Pi: https://kzimmermann.0x.no/articles/state_of_the_distro_2023.html

kzimmermann,
@kzimmermann@fosstodon.org avatar

@kta that's true, also the missing sound drivers. But tbh not even the Linux drivers work that well OOTB from my experience (can't connect to 5GHz WiFi, no full-duplex audio in 3.5mm jack). That's still OK by me though, a few USB adapters and it's fully functional again. And for desktop usage from which I don't disconnect the Pi very often, it works quite well.

@RL_Dane absolutely. Content, base styling and pure speed.

And it's also the ultimate webpage shit-test: if your non-webapp webpage is not look usable in Netsurf, you're doing it wrong. Period. No other way to justify it.

@matthew agreed. And even the "old" part of has some subjectivism - is 10 years old age for a computer? (average age for most of mine) 20? 90s yellowing white cases and CRT required?

I appreciate them all, though. The trend is the opposite of when I used Windows: the older, the more interesting 😃
