Every Phone I've Ever Owned https://rknight.me/blog/every-phone-ive-ever-owned/

Now I've written this I really want to try and buy them all again.

lewis,
@lewis@social.lol avatar

@robb @bendaubney My Dad had it and it's still his favourite phone. I remember him giddily watching Spiderman 3 on it, because it came preloaded and it was the first time he'd ever been able to watch a video on a phone.

Can’t believe they called the feedback in the new Apple pencil “haptic" instead of "hand throb”

This is a rather interesting read https://kevquirk.com/mastodon-is-ddosing-me

Hat tip to @hdv for the link

lewis,
@lewis@social.lol avatar

@belldotbz @hdv I feel like the ActivityPub spec should be extended so that metadata like open graph images can be sent along with posts containing links, so they're only fetched once. The caveat to that being it becomes hard to update it once it's out - but that's already the case, so 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m very glad I prepared my first weeks posts. Moving house this weekend and we won’t have internet until Tuesday at the earliest, so no chance to write anything this weekend

Wanna know the ridiculous reason I spell my name with 2 Bs? You got it.

lewis,
@lewis@social.lol avatar

@robb @maique I have a somewhat-similar situation with my school friends. Both my first and surnames are also first names, so teachers always called me “Dale”, which stuck to the point where I just went by Dale until I went to uni.

There are people I was friends with for years who had no idea my name was Lewis

@robb I can't believe it happened.

On the toggle part, a fair few of them are built into Raycast by default - searching "toggle" gives me the ability to toggle dark mode, bluetooth, fullscreen, mute etc

lewis,

@robb Looks like there are a couple, but also I imagine your Alfred workflows would be transferrable too if you'd rather keep them all in one place

My god, I'm only trying to buy a new helmet and I'm so bewildered.

Virginia Tech helmet ratings, MIPS, the recent German ADAC trials that basically said the Uvex Urban Planet is the only helmet worth having (no MIPS tho) and now that one helmet is out of stock everywhere...

Ugh. What do I doooooo? I didn't want to have to think about this so haaaaaard. I'll accept recommendations. I have a decades old Giro helmet, and it's high time to upgrade.

lewis,
@lewis@social.lol avatar

@sarajw Specialized Align II is a really highly-rated helmet, with MIPS, and it’s reasonably priced. Ive not had any major crashes so can’t personally attest to the head protection (and I’d like to keep it that way), but it’s comfortable and is easily adjustable

🆕 blog! “I can't use my number pad for 2FA codes”

This has to be the most infuriating bug report I've ever submitted. I went to type in my 2FA code on a website - but no numbers appeared on screen. Obviously, I was an idiot and had forgotten to press the NumLock button. D'oh! I toggled it on and typed again. No numbers appeared. I […]

Ordered a massive pipe wrench to try and help remove a very seized seatpost (I don’t have a table vice), but then managed to get it unstuck before the wrench arrived so now I just like… have a pipe wrench that I’m almost certainly going to forget to return

Think I might convert my old Peugeot bike into a single-speed for commuting. It'll eliminate so many issues I end up with around gears, wheels, & general maintenance.

I was considering doing it anyway to sell, but my LBS has suggested it for me as a commuting option, which is tempting tbh

lewis,
@lewis@social.lol avatar

@sarajw The nexus hubs are interesting, but to be honest my commute is so flat (~50m elevation over 17km) that as long as I don't pick an extreme gear I'll be absolutely fine

lewis,
@lewis@social.lol avatar

@sarajw Oh yeah they're absolutely bulletproof, I'm just trying to avoid spending anything extra beyond what I need on this one 😂 Cheap wheelset, crankset, and chain should be all I need for it

lewis,
@lewis@social.lol avatar

@sarajw They're definitely still a thing, I see a fair few around town. I would certainly try a fixie, although I wouldn't go as far as to remove the brakes like some people do, that terrifies me

lewis,
@lewis@social.lol avatar

@sarajw Manchester's pretty flat (at least within the city), so it's not too bad. Yeah, Bristol would be a nightmare, the hipsters there must have had thighs like He-Man.

I'd love a cargo bike, I did see you post about ordering one recently, I'd be interested to know how you find it once you've had it for a while

New post: It's CSS Naked Day

It’s CSS Naked Day[1], so to celebrate I’ve stripped all of the CSS from my
