When I see the CAISO solar supply THAT flat topped, it makes me suspect that there's a TON of additional solar capacity that is getting curtailed because there simply isn't anywhere to send it.

Signs continue to indicate that this is going to be an extremely interesting summer for California's transition to renewable energy.

@kwf Well, "Batteries" appears to have the missing top of the daylight curve.

Wasn't there some browser that let you have bottom-tabs instead of the top-tabs?

macegr,
@macegr@mastodon.social avatar

@foone We need a completely round browser with tabs all the way around the circumference. 90's-2000's media app devs just got out of their rocking chair

The other day while I was riding my bike, a guy ran a stop sign in a truck and I had to move to avoid getting hit.

Not an atypical experience.

But what was unusual was that I ran into him in person today and he said sorry. I didn't know who he was, but he came up to me and explained that he was the driver from the other day and that he wanted to apologize for the incident. Pretty nice guy.

@MLE_online My drivers always cuss me out for existing I guess. The only time they’ve interacted with me is to threaten my life a second time. Glad to hear not all near-death experiences are from rage, there’s still a chance that if we die on these streets the inattentive driver will be really sad.

In one of the more ridiculous moments of my life so far, I got asked to quickly run and buy snacks for the actors right before today's matinee show at the theater.

We were a half hour from show time, so I was already in my maid costume and didn't have time to change, drive to the market and shop, drive back, and get back into costume.

So I had to go to the store dressed as a maid. Fortunately I had my giant coat to mostly cover up how silly I looked.

@MLE_online Who else were they gonna ask, someone NOT dressed as a maid?

@Niall @tubetime Renesas is not known for good UX and a CAD program is 100% UX (since one could technically type out some raw gerber files). Also it was a unanimous board decision on both companies, which is rarely a good sign.

Despite working in the electronics field, I never really got into stuff. But lately I have been trying out and was excited that a friend from Chicago Meetups, @kbx81, has been working at on the project.

https://theamphour.com/657-automating-the-home-with-keith-burzinski/

I spoke with Keith about how to get started as a beginner in the field, but then also how to put some custom electronics to work in a context. I was impressed with how fast I could add a device to my HA

macegr,
@macegr@mastodon.social avatar

@chris_gammell @kbx81 It works very well and is 10x better than 5 years ago.

Pro tip, don’t use a Pi or any dedicated small ARM thing to run it. Don’t use Docker or supervised install. Get a tiny refurb PC like a ThinkCentre M720 and install proxmox, then HAOS in a VM. Much better experience and you can use the same box for a few other local things.

In which GrowSF PAC leader and mega-donor to my opponent calls for the death of me and my colleagues. Can we finally stop calling these toxic millionaires who spread disinformation and incite violence against political opponents “moderates”?

macegr,
@macegr@mastodon.social avatar

@deanpreston It’s a good thing Garry wasn’t elected to do anything and his wildly unacceptable behavior will probably only have negative consequences for himself rather than impact all 800,000 people who struggle to live and work in San Francisco.

My solar system has been fully commissioned, and generated 6kWh on its first full day.

The array has shading in the winter, so the 3kW of solar won't really reach its full potential until spring. Until then, I do at least have full battery backup for all the power outages we have out here.

macegr,
@macegr@mastodon.social avatar

@kwf @M0YNG That's the EV rate, right? Exporting to grid off-peak is still somewhat lucrative under NEM 3 if you feel comfortable draining your batteries to deliver night-time solar

It's ironic when the clone products have better features than the original...
Built-in galvanic isolation, performs as well as the original so far.

macegr,
@macegr@mastodon.social avatar

@timonsku Are you using it for high level stuff like RTOS task debugging etc? I generally do lower level stuff with OpenOCD & pyocd found the originals of these were unsatisfactory so I mostly use ST-Link isolated version.

Today a friend and I went to the swap meet and I bought a bunch of random VHS tapes, including one that was an amateur video from the 1989 Renaissance faire here in LA.

It was just a couple of young doofuses walking around the fair, interviewing people and being awkward and horny.

BUT they interviewed one girl with whom they exchanged numbers. Using those names and numbers, my friend and I spent the afternoon tracking these people down and finding social media accounts and phone numbers for them. We messaged and called them. I hope we hear back.

@MLE_online This show needs better writers then! Unless this is supposed to be a main story arc

@MLE_online Depends on whether it’s a Fox sitcom gag or a heartfelt amazon original
