GHC2024 has landed on HEAD and will be part of GHC 9.10, notable changes include:

• GADTs + MonoLocalBinds
• DataKinds
• LambdaCase

Sadly no BlockArguments (Haskeller appear to love their dollars) and TypeData (time hasn’t come I guess)

Also thank god no ImpredicativeTypes and TypeFamilies

50 Leute, die von sich sagen, sie leben vegan, aber 4x im Jahr ein Leberkäsebrötchen oder 2x im Monat Mozzarella-Pizza essen, sind mir persönlich lieber als fünf 100%ige Veganer. Es bringt unterm Strich einfach mehr!
Nicht komplett konsequent zu sein ist menschlich und das unerreichbare Ziel, "perfekt" zu leben, schreckt viele von den kleinen Schritten ab, die für Veränderung nötig sind..
Die Verbesserung des gesamten Systems ist doch viel wichtiger als das Handeln Einzelner.

I think Mastodon people should use the "like" button more.

People are told not to like because liking doesn't broadcast posts like boosting does, and the site needs boosts. And replies are preferred because they're deeper engagement or something.

But, on some level, we want people to keep using Mastodon. If someone posts something and followers like it, they know stuff is getting seen here and they'll want to keep using the site. I just don't see what's gained by holding back on the likes

Ich mach mich jetzt bestimmt sehr unbeliebt, aber bei den steigenden Kosten fürs Camp hoffe ich ehrlich gesagt drauf, dass es dieses mal einfach kein Elektronik Badge gibt oder zumindest eine Option das nicht zu bekommen. So nett das ist, die Dinger sind gefühlt in den meisten Fällen Elektroschrott der in einer Schublade landet. Das ist dann auch absolut nicht nachhaltig.

Die Idee, dass LLMs streng kontrolliert werden müssen, bis das alignment-Problem gelöst ist und sie sich benehmen, ist offensichtlich gescheitert. Open Source ist einfach viel schneller als Unternehmen, die eine Reputation zu verlieren haben. Deutsche Politik funktioniert so: CDU macht 16 Jahre Reformstau. Wählen dann für 4 Jahre SPD, damit die Koalition unbeliebte aber notwendige Reformen umsetzt, was sie so unbeliebt macht, dass wieder für 16 Jahre die CDU gewählt wird. Rince, repeat.

In a conversation on reddit today someone asked if other languages have phrases like "rightie tightie, leftie loosie" to remember which way to turn screws/lids/etc. And one person answers that in Spanish, the phrase is:

"La derecha oprime, la izquierda libera."

or:

"The right oppresses, the left liberates."

(Now I kind of want to put this on a t shirt)
