One thing @altstore does that should really get you thinking about alternative payment systems that Apple never would have considered: it has Patreon integration, and can tie access to apps to your Patreon pledge — which gives you an entirely different, personal relationship with your users, and lets you use the same reward system you use for videos, blog posts, merch etc. Alternative app stores don’t just have to recreate Apple’s model. And this provides a CTF-friendly avenue (and 1M user cap)

We have been able to independently survey the state of popular apps coming to the Apple Vision Pro – either in compatibility mode or as native apps.

As of today the results (coming straight from the App Store API) are pretty concerning. We found no native apps and a lot of companies that manually opted out of compatibility mode. That includes Spotify and YouTube.

Welp. No YouTube, Spotify, and Netflix at launch is pretty rough. Especially because using them in Safari means no offline downloads.

So say visionOS launches without the ability to download ‘key’ apps like Netflix, YouTube, TikTok, Google Docs, Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Ivory, etc, how excited would you still be for the platform?

iPad was bootstrapped off of iPhone's success, and there was no meaningful opt-out for apps so basically everything ran on day one, and there was a strong incentive for devs to port to native. Giving a checkbox to opt out of visionOS, though, I feel is going to prove to be a huge mistake

I have a very strong suspicion that Vision Pro app compatibility is gonna be rough in this first year. Like, Windows Store rough.
