You say LLMs are verbally fluent, but lack agency and the ability to execute plans, and don’t really know anything? (awkward side eye monkey gif)

@b3ll When you say wipe your album collection … like I still have some stuff in iTunes Match that I haven’t gotten around to downloading, that’s the kind of thing that could get wiped out?

misc,
@misc@mastodon.social avatar

@b3ll Ah, that’s what that’s a screenshot of, duh. (I was like, what in the name of jailbreaking is this??) Yes, I’d love to try - I was curious about Albums but only use Spotify…

@trochee @Riedl So does this mean rip off rewind.ai or what?

misc,
@misc@mastodon.social avatar

@trochee @Riedl It does… but might almost be worth it to me, if they got it running local only. Which they say they is the plan. No go until then. Though I will give them credit for seeming more thoughtful than the average “AI play”. https://stammy.design/@stammy/110074568454191894

Let's just get a move on with this AT/AP bridge and we can all just be one big Fediverse (though we gotta talk about that name too)

Maybe I should try prescription meth again but I kind of fucking hated it

micahflee, to random

A lot of criticism of Mastodon community vibes going on over at Bluesky

misc,
@misc@mastodon.social avatar

@micahflee @doot Ah damn it seeing that they're on there makes me want to try it now. Even though the specific comments are dumb.

I'd love to see a survey of people who posted here and left. Want to know what their reasons were, what they're using now (if anything), and what could bring them back (if anything).

    RIP Jerry Springer, one of the few members of the real-mayor-turned-TV-host-turned-fake-judge pipeline.

    @ernie I feel like I keep mixing up biographical details for them. Which one had the burning river?

    denied me medication and is denying my doctor a peer-to-peer. It’s my last option to control nausea/vomiting/weight loss that I’ve been on for years. Without it, I’ve lost 6% body weight in a bit under 2 months.

    Remind me how America has the best in the world?

    @StacyKess I’m so sorry.

    Are there good examples of FOSS projects led by UX designers? If the answer is "obviously yes" or "that doesn't make sense" feel free to shoot me down, I'm ready.

    misc,
    @misc@mastodon.social avatar

    @enkiv2 I get that that's the association (and the allergy) but I don't see why it should necessarily be so? The underlying motivational question for me, which you're getting at, is this: can there be models of voluntarist software development that don't depend on the ticket for participation being that you code? I was thinking, maybe if the lead wasn't really/primarily a developer... that seems naive though when I type it out.

    misc,
    @misc@mastodon.social avatar

    @enkiv2 Yeah this seems well observed. Seems like the only way to make something like this work is if it started with a developer who voluntarily brought in people with other skill sets, because they saw something to gain from it.

    misc,
    @misc@mastodon.social avatar

    @enkiv2 Yeah… if it’s not obvious I’m thinking about the fediverse, so the vision isn’t about one non-technical person at the top — I don’t really care about who’s at the “top” apart from their influence, such as it is, in who else gets to be involved. It’s hard for me to believe that the only ways to make software are either corporate or everyone-codes.

    misc,
    @misc@mastodon.social avatar

    @enkiv2 Yeah, that wasn’t my original question, but you’ve convinced me the obstacles to a non-technical-founder FOSS project are greater than to, say, a drummer-led band. But I’m interested in way more than UX people being involved, which of course exists. Something more radically democratic. Vague, I know, just looking for models/examples for now. Reason I framed the question as I did, was speculating a UX leader/founder might have a top-down effect on a whole project’s MO.

    misc,
    @misc@mastodon.social avatar

    @enkiv2 Anyway, thanks for helping me think it through!

    @misc@mastodon.social avatar

    @enkiv2 Interesting! Reading up on xanadu now, this is pretty amazing.

    Good news! Mona will be a one-time purchase app, and will be available on App Store this Spring:
    Free trial: 14-day full-feature access for free, with no recurring fee.
    Mona Essential: full-feature access on a single platform (iPhone, iPad, or Mac) for 10 USD.
    Mona Extra: full-feature access on 3 platforms (iPhone, iPad, and Mac), and supports family sharing. Mona users can upgrade from Essential to Extra for 7 USD.
    If you have purchased Spring or Spring mini, Mona Extra will be just 9 USD.

    misc,
    @misc@mastodon.social avatar

    @MonaApp This is great. I was afraid it was going to be a lot steeper. Pro Max is a no brainer purchase for me.
