I think I just fundamentally don't see it as impressive to direct a movie like The Holdovers and earn a Best Picture nom for it.

It's such a formulaic and predictable story, as soon as I read the description I knew exactly the story beats that would be hit.

It's really great, but it's a really great version of the same tired story that is a shoo-in for an Oscar nom. I feel the same way about Maestro and, yes, even Oppenheimer. Destined for a nomination by nature. You'd have to snatch defeat.

Watched The Holdovers. Oozes charm. Knocks you down right when you’re feeling a bit too good, and makes you cheer right when you’re at your lowest, on repeat. Just look at the totality of the DCEU now that it's "over" it's kind of incredible that this thing went on for 15 total films and almost all of them are some of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Like the Friday the 13th movies didn't even go on for 15 films, and still more of them are good than what the DCEU had to offer. What a miserable collection of trash.

A full decade of DC films and the only Batman movie that doesn't also have Superman in it is the one where he's a cameo.

Watched No Smoking. I do ultimately have to hand it to this movie due to where and when it was made. I’ve never seen an Indian film this surreal. Sure, it’s probably pulling a bit too directly from Fincher and Lynch, but the result is something new, almost Inception-like a few years before Inception came out. Rewatched Godzilla Minus One. The big action scenes are counterbalanced by such small, quiet ones. Really taken with the sound design this time. I've really never seen anything quite like this. Marvel is so embarrassed by this movie, this "final" trailer is abysmal.

It starts with 25 seconds of footage from previous Avengers films, showing Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, who aren't in the movie.

Carol Danvers has one line in the entire trailer.

@rodhilton how cool would it have been if they’d fully committed and had her go to the cartoon universe? Live-action cartoon… I’m sick of this. The fact that they have to go live-action for everything is such a handicap. All of this feels so half-baked after spider-verse.
