I don't know if it's the dpad or just frustrating design decisions, but wants me to do things that the controls are absolutely not tight enough to achieve.

    @pikuma I don't know the details, but sounds like someone leaked course files.

    That's really rough, but I think ultimately inevitable as you grow your business and catalog. If something's worth buying, then it'll be worth stealing to someone.

    It happens to all levels of creators, from AAA games to onlyfans accounts. I think all you can do is re-interperet the scenario as a sign of success (albeit an annoying one). The people stealing your stuff wouldn't have paid for it anyways, but now they might talk about your courses to people who might (attempt at a positive spin).

    Anyways, your NES course has been on my wishlist for a while -- picking it up now. While there may be people willing to steal your content for whatever reasons, there's still lots of people who are more than willing to pay for your work. ♥️

    good riddance to everybody who doesn't use zig because they want unused variables in their code.

    I hate reading your code, and I've constructed a life for myself where I don't have to anymore.

    every time you complain, I celebrate my life achievement.

    mvu,
    @mvu@peoplemaking.games avatar

    @andrewrk I'm gonna fill my Zig code with

    var g:i1 = 0;
    g = 0;

    And never use g again just to spite you.

    (JK I love Zig and have never unused a variable in my life)

    I'm going to get a macebell and live out my blunt weapon fantasies in the back yard grinding irl exp.

    Working on some visuals to add to the card game I posted about! Got a cool set of pixel cards off itch.io to work with from https://the-wild-kin.itch.io/kin-pixel-playing-cards

    A question on here spurred me to publish an old standard-deck-of-cards game I wrote (based heavily on an existing game, credited in post) on my blog.

    It's a battling game where you have the noble cards duel it out (politically) by allying with supporters and keeping those alliances secret.

    It's really fun, but I honestly don't know if it's actually playable without a couple of visual aids, which I'll see about making and adding later.

    Anyways, give it a read / tweak / try if you're into this kinda thing. Feedback appreciated!

    mvu,

    @penfount I left my Ystudio pen sitting too long inked and the ink ate through the plastic seal and now the neck leaks right around the nib and it's unusable 😭

    mvu,
    @mvu@peoplemaking.games avatar

    @paradoxmo Could be! I've just taken it as an expensive lesson and try to keep my other pens in-use or cleaned out.
    Contacting customer support sounds like more of a hassle than it's worth 😅

    i may work as a front end engineer but i often don't talk about it because the space it littered with blowhards i'd rather not associate with.

    but gosh i've seen some bad takes around TailwindCSS over the last year. one said Tailwind is for men (uhh, go back to gendering restrooms) and today I saw one saying Tailwind is for people who don't know CSS (lol sure whatever)

    all i am actually hearing is that these people are lonely and need a friend but their attitude pushes everyone away

    I got an fgpa Gameboy from funny playing and I'm pretty impressed with it. Same exact form factor as a gbc but with a lithium ion battery, usb-c charging and a nice screen. Not too hard to assemble either. A comparable modded Gameboy would cost over $100 more and likely have a smaller screen.

    When you live in a big city, you end up with a lot of random businesses with generic names following the pattern of "<name of city> <kind of business>".

    For some examples of business that may or may not exist in my city: "Chicago Plumbing", "Chicago Tacos", and "Chicago Parkour Supply".

    I think it would be great if a local indie studio (or the next long lost child of midway) were to be named "Chicago Videogames".

    Alright, after mucking about forever and writing some real gross code, I've got little cutscenes working in my

    Dialogue is such a core part of games for me, so even for a tiny platformer I wanted to implement this -- and how to implement cutscenes in games has eluded all my past endeavours, so I'm feeling pretty proud to get it working~

    That was the last technical hurdle; now I need to just crank out 20-30 rooms and I should have a game!

    A little low-fi pixel art game featuring a tiny caveman wall-jumping and avoiding spikes. 2 brief cutscenes interrupt the gameplay, mostly involving the caveman being curious about the nature of the tower he's in.

    a poll for Free Software enthusiasts specifically

    please only vote if you have strong positive views regarding copyleft licenses for software and cultural works

    Can you name several video games you've played and enjoyed that match this criteria:

    1. The game was first published in 2023 or 2024.

    2. The entire game (all source code, art, music, etc) is freely available under appropriate open source licenses (permissive or copyleft)

    If the answer is "yes", I'd love to hear about them.

    mvu,
    @mvu@peoplemaking.games avatar

    @aeva Yes! "Several" is maybe a stretch, but Kandria by @shinmera is open source (plus the engine!)

    I also played a crazy impressive tic80 game, shadow over the 12 lands which is open source

    The others are mostly tiny Tic80 or Pico8 games! Example: Birds and Saws on pico8

    Kandria definitely stands out as the biggest, and is out on steam even!
