I don't know if I get excited or scared with this pin... 🤔 https://hu.ma.ne/

n8fr8,
@n8fr8@ohai.social avatar

@kemelzaidan Considering that in their beautiful, polished, produced video they didn't know that the answer about "the best place to watch the solar eclipse" was wrong, I would say scared / amused / bemused

n8fr8,
@n8fr8@ohai.social avatar

@kemelzaidan @argv_minus_one There will be a great deal of leaked "collateral" capture of people, voices, conversations, things, etc in the background as people use it in public

There are many excellent sessions at this weeks MatomoCamp.org event, but tomorrow, this one is the most...insightful! "Maximizing Privacy through Clean Insights on Matomo" https://schedule.matomocamp.org/matomocamp-2023/talk/MME8MC/

You may think you’ve done a good job designing your app in a privacy minded way. You may have passed a security audit for some of your source code. But what toxic assets and data are you collecting, that you haven’t even thought of, that you are aggregating over time, building up toxicity, exposing your users to increased risk?! how does this movie get scarier every time i watch it?

@noneck After everyone went to bed last night, I re-watch "American Werewolf in London"... less scary and more funny than I remembered, and fully enjoyed it

Hey masto!

I know about when it comes to computers and .

But is there something alike for ?
Intuitively, an bootable distro that disable the based parts and only works on WiFi via while spoofing addresses and comes with a curated list of ?

If no, any alternative for time framed anonymity on a mobile device?

Thanks in advance!
Boost welcome 🙏

n8fr8,
@n8fr8@ohai.social avatar

@PacoVelobs There were some old Android tablets that would boot from the SD Card slot as an option. Unfortunately, not sure that is the case with any device today. However, there are some root bootloader menu systems that can do this, but nothing as simple as plugging a Tails USB into a device.

If you know a photo was captured with ProofMode, and can verify it with our ProofCheck process or tools, then you can be assured it wasn’t hallucinated by an AI. @witnessorg

Here's a little toot stream preview of our RightsCon Session "Fortifying Community Truth
in the Age of Synthetic Media" that Community Leader Fabby will be participating in next week... @witnessorg

n8fr8,
@n8fr8@ohai.social avatar

@witnessorg Q. "Tell us about ProofMode, and why you think it could be useful for human rights defenders in this age of synthetic media."
A. "ProofMode is an open-source system that enables anyone to capture and verify photos, videos, and soon audio, using smartphones, from the eyewitness to the consumer."

n8fr8,
@n8fr8@ohai.social avatar

It uses advanced telemetry, hardware fingerprinting, cryptographic signing, and third-party digital notaries to enable an open, interoperable approach to chain-of-custody of multimedia evidence

n8fr8,
@n8fr8@ohai.social avatar

ProofMode also supports the emerging standard for content provenance and authentication called C2PA. Adding ProofMode and C2PA to your photo is like moving it from HTTP to HTTPS - It is a way to track and trust the origin and contents of digital media.

n8fr8,
@n8fr8@ohai.social avatar

This video represents actual reality, captured with ProofMode, published with verifiable media and metadata... it was not hallucinated by an AI: "Voladores de Papantla" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCpaEXk0dm8

n8fr8,
@n8fr8@ohai.social avatar

@katzenberger Yes absolutely. We are somewhat building ProofMode and our various services to be that, but there is nothing in the spec itself that requires you to only trust a predetermined set of Root CAs for instance.

    @aiefel I was part of an event with https://www.respeecher.com/ team, and they had an interesting beneficial use case for witness protection using their speech-to-speech tech

    n8fr8,
    @n8fr8@ohai.social avatar

    @aiefel I've thought about creating an updated ObscuraCam that does something similar, replacing all the faces in a photo with new generated faces of no actual person... could definitely be a useful harm reducing approach to this stuff, that allows a photo to still represent an event like a march or rally

    n8fr8,
    @n8fr8@ohai.social avatar

    @aiefel for sure, and Respeecher is supporting that through the C2PA spec and the Content Credentials concept as support by CAI (https://contentauthenticity.org/), Adobe, Microsoft and hopefully soon Google, Meta, etc

    Really glad to see Signal for Android add the app icon camouflage feature (something we've worked on @guardianproject for years, and helped Grindr implement as well)... not hardcore security, but definitely an easy counter measure to physical device inspections at boarders and checkpoints. https://www.androidpolice.com/signal-update-hide-app-icon-name/
