As bad as it was in the #BayArea at times, at least there was a thriving OS/digital rights/privacy community there. Here, it's like only the worst of the Bay Area exists, in a tiny Euro-American centric bubble.

If you know a photo was captured with ProofMode, and can verify it with our ProofCheck process or tools, then you can be assured it wasn’t hallucinated by an AI. #rightscon#proofmode@witnessorg
Here's a little toot stream preview of our RightsCon Session "Fortifying Community Truth
in the Age of Synthetic Media" that Community Leader Fabby will be participating in next week... #rightscon#proofmode@witnessorg
With regard to the growing controversy about #RightsCon sponsorship, we would cite @aral, a #privacy advocate, who came to his senses on similar issues. We couldn't agree more! There's nothing wrong with support by Facebook or Google!
Costa Rica's withdrawal of visa-on-arrival support for RightsCon attendees has prevented around 300 people from 64 countries, who had already made travel arrangements, from participating.
A missed opportunity for global collaboration and knowledge exchange.
A serious black-eye for the Government of Costa Rica.
Don't miss the chance to join us in conversation with @Greenpeace and @AfricaDefenders on safeguards against tech-based surveillance of environmental and climate justice activists.
Super excited to promote the #privacy champions at #RightsCon . All those privacy scholars and practitioners look great in those great big color glamour shots, and we're sure Costa Rica is beautiful this time of year!
Big thanks to all the great, privacy-conscious sponsors for making all this possible!
Then the #RightsCon·org & accessnow·org websites are both actually #Cloudflare sites! So the event organizers have aligned themselves with the oppressors they are taking money from.
Absolute disgrace.
What is this “freshPrivacyThinking”? No privacy? WTF.
Next week you can see the Bellingcat team in action at RightsCon! We’re hosting an array of amazing talks and workshops. To access online tickets you must register today!
Also on June 8th members of Bellingcat’s Investigative Tech Team @obtusatum , Tristan Lee , @SozinhoRamalho and @aiganysh_aidar will be hosting an in person only workshop on ways to archive online evidence. If you’re at #RightsCon next week, sign up for this event.
I've been told people from the global south are having trouble with their visas to come to #RightsCon. I wouldn't be surprised if the promises made during the last government were directly rejected or disregarded by the new (populist, right wing) gov. it's how they are operating at every level.
