Oh cool, DuckDuckGo now accepts pay-for-placement and doesn't review ads manually and so, now scam websites are in first position.

Cool cool cool.

@ddr is this really anarchy though? I'm not an expert on the topic, but it feels like Duck Duck Go keeps all the power here. They decide the rules and how to apply or not apply them. That's more like monarchy?

Easy to miss in Mastodon's latest update, but the most-requested features are indeed coming "soon:"

"...quote posts, improved content and profile search, and groups. We’re also continuously working on improving content and profile discovery, onboarding, and of course our extensive set of moderation tools, as well as removing friction from decentralized features. Keep a lookout for these updates soon."

@MetalSamurai @chucker @KelsonV Thanks for explaining why it's complicated. Still, I hope they find a solution. Decentralization is more complicated but it doesn't mean that it's impossible.

Here's the problem.

Recent growth on mastodon.social is greater than the growth rate of November 2022.

But growth on other servers, like mstdn.social, has flatlined.

This has been confirmed to me by numerous Mastodon server admins.

Very concerning!

@atomicpoet I think you meant "wasn't" in your first item?

Evan Prodromou (@evan), the co-author of , does not like Bluesky.

He believes it's a setback to the Fediverse and slowing its growth.

I think Mastodon implemented the option last year to auto-delete posts after X days. But me personally, I would prefer them to be "archived" so that only me can read them. And maybe I could select some of them to become "permanent" (visible to all)

narF,
@narF@mstdn.fr avatar

@skotchygut I mean, yeah, it's hackable. And you can also just download your account archive instead of making a scraper. But then reading the content isn't easy. It's just a massive json with no UI.

narF,
@narF@mstdn.fr avatar

@atomicpoet @evan @fediversenews I wonder how important it is to migrate previous post. Do people really dive back in time to go read old toots? There's no good UI to do it anyway (ex: a calendar view where I could access my toots from 2019 easily) so what's the point if they don't migrate? 🤔

My ideal solution would be to have an easily readable archive of my toots, (shown on a calendar) that only me can read. And then my public toots are limited to only X months.

atomicpoet, to fediversenews

Despite only being validated in February, I think Group federation has been a smashing success for the Fediverse.

I use Fediverse groups every day.

And if you’re interacting with this post, so are you.

Fediverse groups even make Mastodon that much more extensible despite Mastodon itself not officially supporting groups yet.

    @jonah why?? 😆

    atomicpoet, to fediversenews

    Yes, at calckey.social, we blocked mastodonapp.uk. This was not an arbitrary decision.

    We received multiple reports of transphobia from mastodonapp.uk, with no action being taken from their mods. For the safety of our users, many who are transgender, we had to initiate defederation.

    This was not a choice we made lightly, but our community’s safety comes first.

    About #2, you can see the servers that your server blocks from your server's About page: https://sfba.social/about
    (unless your server hide's this information. I cannot see it because i'm not on your server but maybe you can?)

    I agree with 4 and 5. Hopefully we'll get there in the future! :)

    Want a new feature in LibreOffice? @tdforg – the non-profit entity behind the suite – is looking to create tenders for some improvements. Let us know what things the software needs: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2023/05/12/tender-ideas-and-proposals-to-improve-libreoffice/

    narF,
    @narF@mstdn.fr avatar

    @libreoffice @tdforg How do we submit ideas? The blog post doesn't make it clear.

    Also, I would say that, at this point, LibreOffice has all the features it needs, and should spend its time doing user research and improve its UI. What's the point of having features that 99% of your users don't know how to use?

    As much as I hate using Google Docs because it's Google, it does offer a very nice experience. I rarely have to search for tools: they are right where I expect them to be.

    If we want the network of apps to grow, developers needs to talk together and find consensus. This initiative looks like it's moving in the right direction!

    I hope we'll see more participation from the smaller apps like and others!
