"Between 2018 and 2021 sixteen new cooperatives were formed by Sharaka [Youth Forum] members. They mostly focus on agriculture, while one is a grocery store. They are spread throughout the West Bank, mainly in the central mountain villages around Ramallah and Nablus… The core values the Sharaka cooperatives have defined for dealing with society, the environment, and with each other are care, justice, equality, and independence… the cooperatives maintain a horizontal structure and experiment with management and remuneration models that fit their egalitarian principles. For them, the cooperative is an attempt at living out the freedom they seek for Palestinians."

"Al-Ouna (العونة) is the historical term used for cooperativism in Palestine, it has always been a part of our Palestinian character, especially in farming. Families would cooperate in their olive harvests and sing folk songs sending gratitude and good wishes to each other."

Why do people get so mad about the idea of using hydrogen for stuff?

ophiocephalic,
@ophiocephalic@kolektiva.social avatar

@sidereal
Hydrogen is no more of a prospect for a liberatory ecological future than nuclear is. Both technologies would continue to centralize control, expertise and wealth in the hands of an exploitative few. Renewables like wind and solar hold more promise for decentralizing energy production into local microgrids, autonomous communities and democratic common ownership.

You can argue that the renewables themselves centralize manufacturing and engineering expertise and require extractive industrialism, and currently that's mostly true. But they hold more promise for a devolution into locally controlled, funky DIY ingenuity and sustainable resourcing. That will never be true for hydrogen and nuclear

Just found out one of the conservative DCCC candidates used my face on a mailer. I’m not happy and exploring legal options. The photo is from a trash cleanup I helped organize before Refuse Refuse was linked to electoral politics.

For the record, not only do I not support the billionaire-backed slate (so-called “SF democrats for change”), but that person is one of the worst on the slate and car-brained as well.

That's fucked up! In SF politics, no good deed goes unpunished.

    It feels like existence has become a terrifying triangulation puzzle.

    1. You can vote against the guy supporting genocide but your only choice will be the guy openly saying he's ushering in a fascist dictatorship.

    2. You can organize resistance to the system but only if you're willing to attend mass indoor events and spread the deadly airborne plague that just killed millions.

    3. You can boycott the horrible social media birdsite that is weaponized to spread disinformation, fascist propaganda and demoralize the Left, but only if you are willing to concede the largest megaphone to the very forces who have distorted it (beyond how much it already sucked).

    4. You can use free platforms to get your art, music, and political ideas out but those platforms will be completely controlled by weird tech billionaire capitalist psychopaths whose cult leader Peter Thiel is ok with Hitler politics and wants to destroy democracy. Also the algorithms will render 99% of all your posts invisible to almost everyone.

    5. You can seek out a vibrant Left and radical politics but you'll mostly find Stalinists, campists, bizarre pro-authoritarian class collaborationists and almost as many far Right ideas as the alt-Right and fascist Right itself.

    Sorry for being so negative but it feels like at every turn, a lot of us are facing dead ends.

    I can say the same thing for our work lives, where the rollback on Covid mitigations has left only the neoliberal use of Covid which is attacking the working class and cutting services and jobs to the bone, despite there also being some labor gains made in recent years.

    "The political project of normalizing transmitting COVID and casting basic, scientific mitigations as bad, weird, mean, stupid, and impossible is a fantastic coup for the right. It is the utter rejection of state responsibility for public welfare, paired with the complete shredding of an early-pandemic solidarity that bound those at risk (everyone) together. That solidarity was replaced with a poisonous “us vs them” worldview whereby those who have been and are harmed are weak, lying, lame, unlucky, unusual, uncool, rare, stupid, bad, mean, aggressive, psychologically disturbed and/or crazy. This schism seeps into the bloodstream of leftist organizing and splinters our coalition, shattering our incipient power as, unsurprisingly, the popularity of the fascists surges globally. I would argue it is the most thorough victory of the far-right in living memory, and it has embedded its eugenicist logic into the very foundation of public beliefs about health, disability, and who deserves safety."

    "The Biden era has normalized illness and demonized mitigations for the sake of “back to normal”. We now live in a country where educated liberals genuinely think it’s okay-and in fact good- that their kids are constantly ill (to be expected given the immune system-damaging nature of COVID). Where leftists argue that killing old people is less harmful than wearing masks. Where concern for community health is painted as cowardly and using the modern scientific tools we are lucky enough to have is portrayed as rude and stupid. And terribly, this liberal political project under Joe Biden has come down like a hammer on community solidarity, leaving “the vulnerable” squabbling with their mocking former comrades. It’s hard to overstate just how much damage the normalization of COVID has done to the very concepts of public health and community."
