As part of some side project using I implemented the musicbrainzws2 package. It wraps the web service and search API into a Go friendly interface.

The package is I think rather feature complete, but likely there are bugs and in the current state I reserve the freedom to change the interface at any time as I see fit. But maybe you want to give it a try if you need to access the MB API with Go.

Everyone said get a Brother printer so I bought a 3-in-1 scanner and printer. There seems to be something wrong with it though. I plugged it into a Linux laptop, opened a document, pressed print, selected the printer, and it printed. Then I opened simple-scan, pressed scan, and it scanned.

This isn't how printers and scanners are supposed to work. Where do I install the drivers that don't work properly etc? This was no fun. I demand a refund.

@JoeRess That's entirely your fault, you forgot to install Windows first.

Today's blog post: I love finding a simple command 10 years into using something.

In this case, using git checkout to get a single from from another branch.

I wrote about it today on my blog.

@shawnhooper that's awesome, thanks for sharing. I happen to be in this situation frequently, but it never occurred to me that there might be a simple command for this.

Frustrating morning. I sat down to clean up the metadata on my extensive mp3 collection and broke out MusicBrainz Pichard (@metabrainz ) which I've used on and off for years.

250 files later I find that when the tags get written the files are getting damanged! No idea how. Some combination of exfs4 disk, on a mac maybe?

ffplay shows that after a few seconds the rest of the track is corrupted.

Edit: Tried editing tags with mp3tag - same result! Edit tag, file becomes unplayable

outsidecontext,
@outsidecontext@fosstodon.org avatar

@coldclimate That either sounds like an issue on the filesystem or worst case even some hardware issue with that drive. Do you have some spare external drive you could test with to see whether the same issue happens there with the same filesystem and driver?

In any case I would ask Paragon Software about that, they should know their driver best.

Ok so and api are no use to get album covers… noted …

So I guess I’ll have to figure out how to refresh tokens on the spotify api :tiredcat:

outsidecontext,
@outsidecontext@fosstodon.org avatar

@tournesol @ultimateriff Get the MusicBrainz release ID from the ListenBrainz listen mbid_mapping, then use this to query the Cover Art Archive. The mbid_mapping might also contain a "caa_release_mbid" which indicates the release from which the displayed cover art was taken.

Statement regarding the ongoing SourceHut outage

@drewdevault Oh no, I was in god hope when I noticed that the repos had been reachable earlier today :( Thank you and your team for all your work here and good luck for getting through this

outsidecontext,
@outsidecontext@fosstodon.org avatar

@drewdevault Just want to let you know that I appreciate it very much how you are handling the situation and communicate about it. Not billing the outage period is also the right thing to do from both a business and customer perspective, and I also appreciate this decision very much.

However, I will be among those who will increase their payment for the service to help you sustain.

Unbelievable that has been under a attack since yesterday. Their status page is kindly hosted by who recently posted a message of sympathy to the SourceHut team. Now they too are experiencing a DDOS attack !
What's the need really other than pure hatred ?

outsidecontext,
@outsidecontext@fosstodon.org avatar

@JustineSmithies Just noticed about this. This really sucks and seems so pointless attacking the small free software hosters. There is a status update by on https://outage.sr.ht/

Let's hope they get this sorted.

MetaBrainz project translation has officially moved from Transifex to Weblate!

Your central information page for all MetaBrainz internationalization is now: https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Internationalization

Your new translation platform is (MusicBrainz login required):

Now’s a good time to try out translating, if you’ve ever thought about doing it. It’s easy! Check the blog post for a quick-start guide and video:

@metabrainz I'm so happy that this is finally ready for translating. It already helped a lot to improve translations for Picard. @weblate is a great tool.

    Hi @outsidecontext, just wanted to thank you for making Peek. I discovered and used it yesterday to do the video supporting this little Mastodon feature request: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/27598

    @outsidecontext@fosstodon.org avatar

    @miblo You're welcome, and I'm very happy that it works so well for you. I loved Peek. But you should also be aware that Peek is basically unmaintained and that it has too many issues I found unable to overcome without totally changing it. I wrote about it in https://github.com/phw/peek/issues/1191

    I really love my 12 year old reader. Despite its age it gets firmware upgrades regularly. That's awesome support. And it's still pleasant to read with.

    Newer models for sure are faster and have a better screen, but I'd rather spend my money on new books :)

    @adamsdesk That. And I love the fact that in times where we waste valuable resources and energy on high tech gadgets that become obsolete after a too short time this little computer still is both useful and officially supported.

    On upgrade 23.04 removes Software and reinstalls the store. I don't like the upgrade removing software I have chosen to install for no good reason other than trying to push their stuff. Do whatever you want for default installs, but keep my choices on upgrade!
