04.08. PARKS

I absolutely destroyed @peterdrake in this game (52 vs 39). We had about the same number of pictures, but I visited a whopping 12 parks. I think that’s a record high for me.

Some of the new gear in the Wildlife expansion seems really overpowered. There’s no way the Planner, which gives you a wildlife after you visit a park, should cost only two sunshine. I’m sure I have that card to thank for my victory and personal best score.

The web is dead to me. Managed to keep the thousands of ads at bay for years but now the "consent" and newsletter popups and the non existence of "reject" button, instead several misleading steps to just look at a paragraph or two of text doesn't seem worth my time.

And even if I jump through the artificial hoops, there's no guarantee that a human wrote the text

Either I'll build agents to fetch the data I need or I'm not engaging. The concept of www is no longer fit for humans as consumers.

peterdrake, to unity
@peterdrake@qoto.org avatar

Something weird is going on in the Unity scene view: the bottom of the view is black, obscuring everything (including the grid). The region gets larger if I zoom in. There are no GameObjects to click on in the void region.

What's going on? A web search finds many forum posts with people having the same problem, and suggestions that it is a bug which has gone unfixed for at least ten years.

Help!

peterdrake,
@peterdrake@qoto.org avatar

@MBoffin I tried changing the clipping plane, but any changes instantly reverted. (This may be because there's a Cinemachine VCam involved, controlled by elaborates scripts from the third party TopDown engine.)

I wasn't having this problem before. I haven't messed with the camera in weeks if not months. I wonder what changed.

“Just four years ago I was a very popular and successful President of the United States, getting more votes than any sitting President in history,” ~Trump

What the hell is this idiot talking about?! At no time in his political history has ever received more votes than his opponent. Hilary got 2.87 million more votes in 2016, and Biden got 7 million more votes in 2020.

https://www.mediaite.com/politics/see-you-tomorrow-trump-ruefully-laments-how-just-4-years-ago-he-was-president-but-now-faces-criminal-court-and-legal-chaos/

peterdrake,
@peterdrake@qoto.org avatar

@slcw Those statements are not in conflict, because Hilary and Biden were not sitting Presidents.

It doesn't really mean anything, because total vote counts increase with population -- and, as you point out, his opponents got more.

@ai6yr If the roads are bumpy enough, you can just buy cream and by the time you get home you'll have butter.

Can a object be both mutable and hashable?

peterdrake,
@peterdrake@qoto.org avatar

The answer: #3! Functions and generators, for example, are both mutable and hashable. This works because that part that's examined by == is immutable.
