A plug in the power line tube. What are the chances that you hit it exactly in the middle?
Low, but apparently non-zero.

Hopefully I will be able and allowed to operate Mobile Vertical and Mobile Boom (3a,3b) machines at the end of the day.

@leyrer eye (screw?) contact is not the problem. Being in the potential ballistic traversal path is the problem!

Again the FOSS world has proven to be vigilant and proactive in finding bugs and backdoors, IMHO. The level of transparency is stellar, especially compared to proprietary software companies. What the FOSS world has accomplished in 24 hours after detection of the backdoor code in #xz deserves a moment of humbleness. Instead we have flamewars and armchair experts shouting that we must change everything NOW. Which would introduce even more risks. Progress is made iteratively. Learn, adapt, repeat.

phoenix,
@phoenix@chaos.social avatar

@jwildeboer even more, 1000 eyes are now focussing on the wound, looking for damages and other infections. 1000 eyes that would otherwise do other things are focussing on the one wound, so it can heal.

Once a problem has been identified, the self-healing capabilities are typically given. This is the resilience that is needed for survival. And it is there.

That's the open-source spirit, and it is awesome 🤘👍

If you're using Tumbleweed/MicroOS/Debian sid and you had ssh exposed to a untrusted network (e.g. "the internet") it's time to re-do your servers.

Big ouchy.

#babboe destroyed their brand.

"The bicycle manufacturer has been in the news repeatedly for the past six weeks because of extensive safety risks regarding several of its cargo bike models, an attempt to fire a whistleblower, and allegations the company may have tried to keep the problems hidden from their customers."

https://nltimes.nl/2024/03/28/criminal-investigation-launched-claims-babboe-tried-cover-cargo-bike-issues

phoenix,
@phoenix@chaos.social avatar

Parents are among the most difficult customers. And no parent wants to put their children in a 2-4k Cargobike with known safety issues where the manufacturer has been caught, trying to mask them.

Producing faulty products is bad, but forgivable. Knowing about those faults and deliberately putting the safety of children at risk is not.

phoenix,
@phoenix@chaos.social avatar

I feel sad, because they are everywhere, people use them on a daily basis, they look nice, are functional and are just dang cool bikes.

We wanted to get one ourselves this year. Did some research, asked people about their experience, selected a model. I was close to renting it to try it out because that's a service they provide. Neat! You can test it before you buy it, which is nice for a 2k euro investment.

This is not going to happen anymore. A faulty frame is a non-starter.

phoenix,
@phoenix@chaos.social avatar

Years of brand-building went down the drain in a moment. This is damage you can't fix as soon as you've destroyed it.

And again: the main issue is not the faulty frame. The main issue is that they knew, and decided to do nothing about it.

For cargo bikes where you transport children.

Freaking. Unbelievable.

When I'm asked to screen candidates for hiring, I find your codeberg/gitlab/github account far more interesting than your CV. Or bugzilla tickets. Or pull requests, even if they got rejected.

Not having any account on any of those code collaboration platforms is a big bummer when applying for a FOSS company.

Just saying 🤷‍♂️

I use wireguard since 2-3 years to secure connections between different sites I manage. So far I haven't encountered any issues, once it works.

Shoutout for how awesome wireguard is. It runs so smoothly that you will totally forget about it. That's how good software should be.

Have a good day and may your packets flow freely 😃
