  • piper,

Just received a lovely greeting from a very cheerful bus driver (female). I'm going to need those positive vibes later when I have to interact with my property manager (evil)

    piper,

@luciedigitalni some of those property managers are definitely power tripping - hope you get them on a 'good day' today.

Went to phone chemist about a vaccination script. No dial tone on landline, mobile service here sucks. After about 20 minutes of fault checking procedures, technician should be here tomorrow by mid-afternoon. Happy I am.

    piper,

@MorpheusB how frustrating for you 🙁

    piper, to earthquake

surely I am not alone wondering how the people in Afghanistan are doing, after that massive earthquake last week, and yet another one on Sunday? Humanitarian crisis goes mostly unmentioned. 🙁

    piper, to melbourne

Morning Tooters - it is now apparent that the clutch of the Peregrine Falcons in Melbourne, Collins St, won't hatch this year - the parents have abandoned the nest for reasons only known to them. The female is looking worse for wear, appears to have been in a fight or accident and possibly concussed, so she would not be able to fully attend to the chicks anyway.
Was looking forward to hearing the gutter stomp of the chicks again but it ain't going to happen this year.
Feeling a bit sad and disappointed but such is life in all facets.

    piper,

@Gustodon yeah, would have been a nice focal point with all the other sh*t going on in the world, got many of us through the extended lockdowns too.

    piper, to ebikes

When I sold my last car in 2011 and switched to bike (first a standard, last 5 yrs eBike) I walked past the auto-electrician, the tyre place, the rego office, spare parts dealer, the mechanic, the panel beater, the petrol station etc etc and counted all the money I was saving and it made me very happy.
Also noticed how many things I did not spontaneously shopped for because I had no way of getting them home (and really didn't need them anyway).
It works well for me, public transport is used for trips I can't make with the bike.
The freedom of pulling up next to the shop without having to search for a parking spot is priceless.
Some would find it extremely inconvenient for sure. Others, like myself, find it very liberating.

    piper,

@tshirtman friends just spent $8000 on a car barely worth more than that, to get it back on the road. It was great to 'get their freedom back' they said. 🤔
Conditioning and the inability to think outside the box (pardon the pun) proved costly.

noticed my elderly neighbour going for lots of little walks during the day over the last few months. Spoke with him today - he does it 'to keep warm' - can't afford the heating bill.🙁

    piper,

@Gustodon are just disposable to (most of) them. Get all they can out of an individual and then turf 'em.

    piper, to Lichen

Morning, Tooters - TGIF (for some of us). Enjoyed a crispy cool morning walk and spotted this beautiful lichen. Off to the shops next for some supplies and maybe a ride in the bush.

doing my best to keep my memory active because we are being dumbed down to the max.

Started with memorising the phonetic alphabet, morse code, all 50 US states, my phone contacts (needs more work), international flags.
Disabled auto- complete in text messages and auto correct (which is why you see me editing my posts often, because as soon as I post I spot a grammatical error😬 )

What keeps your memory ticking over, regardless of age?
