I have been really valuing the responses I've gotten to my getting old post. I wonder if we should hashtag future discussions? Anyone got ideas? How about something like #eldertalk ? I dunno- that's not terribly catchy...hmmmm
A close friend I've had all my adult life is struggling with things a little bit these days. They don't like to leave their house and almost never initiate contact with friends anymore.
I hate the helplessness of watching a loved one who has closed themselves off from the world a little more each time we speak.
That's not how we should be getting old damn it. We should be laughing together at all the stupid shit we did and survived in our 20's.
I should've taken before pictures of the other two ratchets in this group but I am old and get ahead of (or behind) myself sometimes.
They were just about as rusty as the first one I restored.
All three have been lubricated lightly with oil (externally) to prevent rust and have a heavy duty grease applied to the inside of the ratcheting mechanisms.
@popey Speaking as a member of #OldPeopleOfMastodon I got a little annoyed by this. But yes it is funny. #LinuxMint is a nice clean distro that "just works". That's why I use it.

When I was young two types of men had tattoos, sailors and criminals. Why'd you want to spoil new young skin with ink that will blur and fade and look really shit long before you're my age. Be proud of your skin, don't deface it.

Shit. I've written before about how COVID vaccines/boosters kicked my ass every time I got one. It felt like I was assaulted by rodeo clowns every time I got one.
Well the real rodeo clowns showed up last night and the ass-kicking was both real and energetic.
Please get your vaccines and boosters and stay on top of it - I don't even want to imagine just how bad this would be if I hadn't, and wear a mask. It's important.
I would like to point out that the Häagen-Dazs strawberry ice cream that used to be in our freezer was consumed before midnight and therefore NOT subject to any of my New Year's resolutions.
Also, there wasn't that much left in the container and I'd like an exemption waiver for the cinnamon roll I'm about to eat.
